  1. www.csmonitor.com Mainly where I go for the news these days... Actually educated and almost as objective as I've been able to find.
  2. This is probably the coolest project I have ever heard or seen of, thanks for sharing it with us :)
  3. Yeah man good to meet ya. Address is 1326 Carpenter Branch Ct. Oviedo, FL 32765 I think I'm going to try to have everyone park at the local skate park place and shuttle you guys over to my house... Since parking is a bitch even with no one here. It's literally about a minute's drive from my driveway Tony, I imagine a fair amount of people will be staying overnight Friday, so yeah we'll be up and about in the morning I think.
  4. Seems like it might work? Could drill the plate for coolant holes too if you wanted. Why didn't you use it?
  5. I'm hoping to be well into the 12s when I transfer my setup into the wagon.... Until then, my only shot at 12s is Sept 8, and I'll be happy with high 13s At 23-24 psi, doesn't matter how beat my engine is... That will at least give me a 12 second trapseed.
  6. To his credit though he has put out some really crazy red block stuff, I know he makes (well, has some made for him surely) custom blocks to get the red blocks to very high displacement... Along the lines of where Charles is going, longer pistons will also help with side-loading on the cylinder walls.. But, at 9500 RPM you may not want to make the pistons any longer. Shorter stroke would be a nice compromise, and any loss of torque will be negligible with boost in the equation.
  7. Mike, I would guess that the cheapest solutions will be companies who outsource plans to China, and there are probably innumerable companies that do that both here and over there... Talk to Sten Parner and see what he suggests? One company in the US I know of who makes blocks for some applications is www.dartheads.com though not sure if they do custom applications or how affordable they are. Mike, how about boring the blocks way out, filling the block and welding deck closed, get real sturdy thick cylinder sleeves and smaller pistons? Lots of companies make cylinder sleeves, sure you could get some custom made that will solve the between-cylinder cracking issue...
  8. That's what Nick said Nice link though.
  9. Keg = no... Had one the last few meets (actually two each time I think?) Things get rowdy with a keg, granted cleanup is easier but I really want to try to keep it from spiralling out of control. Too many neighbors have itchy trigger fingers and 911 on speed dial. (i.e. next door neighbors who prefer to call the cops rather than ask me to move a car from in front of their mailbox. have yet to speak to them personally) Think we might do some offsite parking too since I am on a culdesac (relax, there's parking lots literally less than a minute from my house ). By the skate park on Lockwood... We will have beer though, and liquor, just want to have the bottles/cans numbered so we don't get too many non-Volvo people (last couple parties at the meets we had probably 20-25 Volvo guys and 30+ non Volvo people ). Can still play flip cup without a keg guys ;)
  10. Looking good guys. Things haven't gone well with me lately but the show must go on! Going to possibly buy some stuff at Harbor Freight tomorrow (i.e. a LOT of stuff).
  11. Greg, anyone taking time out of their lives by helping to make off the shelf Volvo aftermarket parts more available to the end user is alright by me, and hopefully everyone else here can realize the value and intent of your efforts :)
  12. Stand-alones you can wire straight to the alternator, fuel pump, etc. Piggybacks just splice into the stock wiring and leave the stock wiring architecture intact but modify the signals to do what you want. MS can serve as a full stand-alone, or you can integrate it only partially... When I was going to do MS in an 850, I was going to leave motronic ignition intact but replace the motronic fuel injection with a fully stand-alone MS substitute.
  13. Hey, Larry at ENDYN is starting to work on large-scale development of Hyundai pistons and ported heads, possibly supercharger kits and manifolds like he did with Hondas... ( http://www.theoldone.com ). Times can change ;)
  14. Don't forget to write! Wait, you'll still be here.. good luck then.
  15. Mike, the point is that you can answer your questions just by looking around. There are tons of well thought-out explanations EVERYWHERE on this site and others, people just get tired of explaining simple things over and over again. The good part is that they're simple, so you can read a little and have a good understanding.
  16. If you read 10% of the links in the pinned threads at the top of the page, you would know enough not to ask silly questions. That's why when people ask silly questions, those who have to read those questions and think "this guy doesn't care enough to read anything." Charles isn't special because of the mods on his car, it's because he owns this site and created this place for all of us. If you're 17, work on becoming an awesome driver and when you feel limited by your car's speed look into upgrading its performance.
  17. Probably not gonna be a mega meet due to the neighbors situation, but be a good chance for the new school VS crew to meet the old school VS/Tbricks crew Sounds good guys, we'll plan more concretely as it's getting closer... I'd plan on things kicking off Friday afternoon before the track at my house.
  18. Well I mentioned it a few times, but now have picked a date (still up to be changed if necessary). This will be a meet centered on the assembly of my 242 GT, it will be a crazy 2-3 day build of a car. My garage will be clean, organized, and ready to go, and all the parts we will be using (along with the car itself) will be clean, organized, and ready to go. Highlights of this build: -Junkyard B23FT with 405 head to replace early style B21F -2 fiberglass shell race seats with harnesses and harness bar (possible addit'l chassis bracing inside the car) -Wiring MS (fuel-only-- should be dead easy to set up and tune, wiring harness partially made right now anyway) -Painting the car There are countless other aspects of the build, most are detailed here: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/Orlando-Mee...dup-t55781.html http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=77252 We'll have air tools, countless hand tools, a dunk tank, possibly a drill press, bench grinder, and of course my best friend Mr. Super Dremel. There will be side attractions to the meet! We will be going to the track Friday night, and depending on the condition of my 850 it may make one final voyage down the 1/4 mile, aiming for ridiculous numbers. We will be barbecuing Saturday like only us Orlandonians/Orlandoans/Floridians know how, and there will be fresh beer aplenty throughout the wrenching, as well as FWD scare rides in the crazy 850 if it stays together (seperate from beer drinking of course). Upon completion of the car, will be handing out rides to all who have helped and are still around. There will be limited partying, probably no keg this time (want to keep things under control for the neighbors, who aim to have me out of my house), BUT limited partying to us is probably short only of the SE meet shenanigans. Probably have the Xbox running racing games throughout the duration, maybe have a raffle or two depending on who shows up. This will be a great time to be had by all, don't miss out! Anyway, there you have it. I will be posting details of the build agenda and my preparatory agenda later on this week, so stay tuned. Let me know who's in, and let's make this thing great!
  19. Or enough beer to forget that you're sleeping against a wall with a towel for a pillow.
  20. Jeez, I was thinking the same thing Poi/Chris posted. You guys just jumped off on some tangent for a few pages For what it's worth, I was running orange injectors with my 19T with only a reflash and exhaust. My AFRs were in the high 11s to low 12s until 26 psi (oops was watching AFR not boost!). That is lean for 26 psi, but the point is that there was fuel there. Does that mean everyone should use orange injectors? No. That setup left my on the side of the road hitting all the injectors with pliers or a hammer a total of 4 times in under a year. That means there were one-two injectors frozen, and I always got them un-stuck, but it's hardly a way to get around and certainly not the safest way to run your car. The new owner of that turbo and ECU has not had any of those incidents to my knowledge and is running slightly lower boost than I was, but it's still not the best way to go about things and the main reason I moved to my new setup.
  21. SO FUCKED UP OFF STARBUCKS DOUBLESHOTS OF ESPRESSO AHHHHHHH! But seriously. I am wired... Multiple/continuous doubleshots of espresso coupled with a couple beers (Orange Blossom Pilsner... Not too bad but doesn't really represent Florida that well!).
