No offense but that's a horrible excuse for not running a brake. Especially since you're still learning how to ride that thing. I ran a brake when I first learned and I feel comfortable enough now to be able to ride without one. Just beause you can skid doesn't mean you can stop efficiently. Run the brake and stay alive.

Jamacian skidding ain't safe for the streets and you'll go through too many shoes if you ted shred all the time.

No offense but I would never trust welding a freewheel like that on a fixed gear. Track wheelsets are as cheap as $100 on ebay (or local CL ads). You also won't find a 27" track wheelset (at least cheap). Also, get some clips and run a brake!

Saw that. There's been a lot of road rage incidents (a few involving death) lately. It's scary to be on the road sometimes especially as a daily commuter. Definitely keeps the blood pumping.

The one thing I don't trust about carbon fiber is its lifespan. I would feel relatively comfortable with just the fork blades made of carbon fiber but I'm not sure how I'd feel about the steerer tube made of the same material. But then again, I'm in a city environment and I'm assuming you're a little less rough with your stuff. I can get back to you about the guys opinion about the fork but it probably won't be much help considering he just got it the other day.

You kidding me!? I can't afford that thing! I'm broke! I'll let you know how the guy likes it though. He decided to go with the thomson instead of the matching easton seatpost. Kinda weird, in my opinion, since he's so concerned with weight. I've heard good things about the fork though.

I've seen those BMC roadies before. They look so rad! The Eddy Mercx is also poking amazing! It's rare for me to get into 47x11 in the SF hills.

I've been getting into American frames recently. Serrotta, Jacobs, Mikkelson, Vanilla, 3e, Don Walker, Broakland/ El Camino, etc. I prefer the older Italians. The new carbon fiber stuff looks to similar. It's so hard to see any difference in most frames. Not to mention some aren't worth anything! Tange was selling a monkeyin' expensive full carbon fiber frameset and it didn't even give a straight chain line! Besides, Steel is Real.

I have no doubt the C40 rides like a dream but I have a thing for old classy steel builds. The stem has the colnago pantograph and the fork has the little colnago symbol and name imprinted in the crown lugs. Those are things you won't find on more modern bikes made of aluminum and carbon. Mind posting up the rest of your stable?

Nice score! If it's not too nosey, can we know the price? Close, you can score the YBB for under 3 grand. I think they're worth it. Not all titanium bikes are created equal. Make sure it had the right dropouts first and foremost. You can score a cheapo fixed/free wheelset on ebay ultra cheap too. You can either use spacers to get a straight chain line or go to your local bike shop and they'll compress the chainstays so it fits your average 120mm rear hub. Love that saddle, I run it on my roadie.

There's a guy here in Oakland that went through cyclecross season on a track bike. It had knobby tires and brakes and it absolutely killed his legs but he did way better then expected. The hill climb was absolutely ridiculous!

I run my chain relatively tight. I don't like having any slack in it since it's my drive train AND my brake.
