  1. yea i was thinking about running a little e-brake, but i really hate to ruin the clean and simple look of it.

The welds aren't that pretty, but they're strong. I'm not too worried about it. Like I said, it's a temporary solution until i get my new wheels.

No offense but that's a horrible excuse for not running a brake. Especially since you're still learning how to ride that thing. I ran a brake when I first learned and I feel comfortable enough now to be able to ride without one. Just beause you can skid doesn't mean you can stop efficiently. Run the brake and stay alive.

  2. No offense but I would never trust welding a freewheel like that on a fixed gear. Track wheelsets are as cheap as $100 on ebay (or local CL ads). You also won't find a 27" track wheelset (at least cheap).

Also, get some clips and run a brake!

  3. Got mine from FedEx the other day, but have yet to take pics. It's a late 80's Schwinn World Sport my mom had laying around, so I decided it'd be a fun project.

Drew (Dongle) will be helping me fix it up and swapping it to fixed gear. So it's in pieces at his place waiting to get cleaned and "modded." Mmmm...can't wait. I'll get some pics up soon! This is basically what it looks like now:

I think my favorite thing is the sweet 80's decals. Soo pimp.

Holding it down for the Texas Fixed Grrr?

  4. The one thing I don't trust about carbon fiber is its lifespan. I would feel relatively comfortable with just the fork blades made of carbon fiber but I'm not sure how I'd feel about the steerer tube made of the same material. But then again, I'm in a city environment and I'm assuming you're a little less rough with your stuff.

I can get back to you about the guys opinion about the fork but it probably won't be much help considering he just got it the other day.

  5. You kidding me!? I can't afford that thing! I'm broke! I'll let you know how the guy likes it though. He decided to go with the thomson instead of the matching easton seatpost. Kinda weird, in my opinion, since he's so concerned with weight. I've heard good things about the fork though.

  6. I've been getting into American frames recently. Serrotta, Jacobs, Mikkelson, Vanilla, 3e, Don Walker, Broakland/ El Camino, etc.

I prefer the older Italians. The new carbon fiber stuff looks to similar. It's so hard to see any difference in most frames. Not to mention some aren't worth anything! Tange was selling a monkeyin' expensive full carbon fiber frameset and it didn't even give a straight chain line!

    Besides, Steel is Real.

  7. QUOTE (matt b @ May 9 2008, 11:35 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
You're lucky, I'd take any Colnago over my Litespeed, any day of the week!

Even the ones with the crimped tubing? I haven't heard good things about their crash record and life span in general.

  8. I have no doubt the C40 rides like a dream but I have a thing for old classy steel builds. The stem has the colnago pantograph and the fork has the little colnago symbol and name imprinted in the crown lugs. Those are things you won't find on more modern bikes made of aluminum and carbon.

Mind posting up the rest of your stable?

  9. Picking this bike up on Saturday. :) Got an AMAZING deal on it.

Nice score! If it's not too nosey, can we know the price?

I don't know ANYTHING about road bikes, but I know Moots is poking money. By Money I mean super cool and super poking expensive. I would have loved to have one of their mountain bikes though. Just couldn't justify 2k+... on an essentially hard tail... frame only... 5 years ago. They are probably 5k now.

Close, you can score the YBB for under 3 grand. I think they're worth it. Not all titanium bikes are created equal.

how do i go about doing a fixie swap. i just saved a pos frame from the wrecker and jst want a beater to start ridin back and fourth to work on..

Make sure it had the right dropouts first and foremost. You can score a cheapo fixed/free wheelset on ebay ultra cheap too. You can either use spacers to get a straight chain line or go to your local bike shop and they'll compress the chainstays so it fits your average 120mm rear hub.

Slightly on topic, got a new seat for my bike -- Selle Italia Flite in yellow.

Love that saddle, I run it on my roadie.

  10. Been more into cyclocross lately.

How do ya feel about fixed trail riding :o

There's a guy here in Oakland that went through cyclecross season on a track bike. It had knobby tires and brakes and it absolutely killed his legs but he did way better then expected. The hill climb was absolutely ridiculous!

  11. And you can't use the shorty for a triple. Well, you can, but it probably won't shift very well in one of the rings. :)

Yeah, I just wouldn't need the third ring for my kind of riding. That's also assuming Greg wanted three chainrings (which it seems he does). I agree with you, it's just my opinion about aesthetics.

This is something I WISH I could have. Someday......someday....
