Great shot of your kid. The light tones work perfect. And yes I've used extension tubes with some success (I think). Though, the quality won't be that of a good macro lens. Macro lenses are generally optimized for close focus distances vs infinity focus. I actually had no idea it was a volcano until a few days ago. Another from the Redwoods. I was chasing light rays too much. Did my best to reduce contrast but keep the light rays dominant and maintain texture in the trees. 4x5 HP5+ @250 f32 for 1 sec with Caltar 75mm lens. Developed in Rodinal 1:50 for 10 minutes.

Yes! I drove there from Crescent City one day. Took some old logging roads up a nearby mtn/hill.

Not sure? I don't see one on mine. If I bump the contrast to max in CS5 I can start to see one but only on the dip in the middle.

Grand Teton - I didn't want to go the known places in Grand Teton but didn't spend nearly enough time there to get out and really hike through. The mountains here are awesome but I would have rather done a more unique composition from a more unknown location.

13 day road trip. One of the few I got of the redwoods: 4x5 HP5+ @320 in Rodinal 1:50 for 10 minutes. Crown Graphic Special - Caltar 75mm f/6.8 @f/32. Metered time of 6 seconds exposed for 36 to account for reciprocity.

Looking great Greg. What don't you like about that camera? They seem to be having some issues that will be fixed with a firmware update but I don't know what those issues are.

I thought it was the 105? On NikonRumors they were complaining that it wasn't the 135. I definitely won't get it either way. It will be way too much.

Sensor is the same so dynamic range and iso performance are nearly identical. The d7000 has much much better AF. Faster FPS. Built in motor (this is why I would never consider a low end Nikon). Weather sealing - I take my d300s into rain and snow all the time. And a much larger viewfinder. Up to you though. The d5100 sensor is great. But AF is going to be quite a bit worse. And thanks Greg. Gave you a list of 4x5's that are quite cheap.

Portrait of Steel. Taken on Calumet C1 and 8x10 Ilford HP5+ with 30cm Heliar at f4.5 for 1/25 @ iso 320. Developed in Rodinal 1:25 for 5 minutes at 68° constant agitation in BTZS tube. I am happy with the exposure and developed for first time with the tubes. I need to get in tight for some really shallow dof but focus is tough with the dogs constantly moving! 50% crop O_O. Torturing my PC.

Yeah the 4990 does 2 4x5s in a holder and can do 8x10 on the glass. It's pretty similar in quality to the v700 and v750. The v750 has a wet mounting kit though. Even the 3200 will do 4x5. http://www.largeformatphotography.info/scan-comparison/

Those tones are pretty much perfect. Very natural and a great set. What are you scanning them with? I got an Epson 4990 for very cheap and it does a good job for web resolution. I think if I ever wanted one of my negatives printed I'd need to send it out for drum scanning. The v750 seems to do a good job but not worth the price, for me especially with how little I print, over a used 4990.

Thanks Greg. I haven't yet. I really think medium format is the best compromise with grain from what I've seen online. LF might as well be grainless and 35mm is sometimes too much. MF seems to have the perfect balance with visible yet small, sharp grain. I'd like to try it but just got an 8x10 camera and focusing on that right now. It's tough to get portraits of the dogs with 8x10 since they don't sit still. I may have to try some with a car or something. Looking forward to seeing the Portra. The last ones you posted had perfect skin tones. I guess that's why it's called portra.....Still haven't used mine for any. But I rarely do portraits. Rokinon 85mm on D300s at f/2. And here is how the 8x10 needs to be to get portraits of the puppy or Steel laying down:

First shot with the Voigtländer Braunschweig Heliar. Taken @f5.6 on Ilford FP4+ @ iso 50. Developed in Rodinal 1:100 for 19min to try and reduce contrast. Mid-day sun. Just wanted to use the lens. HP5 8x10 came today so I hope to get something on that soon.
