  1. I can see how the .9 would have helped. The shot turned out though so you are right - it works. Thanks. I could sit out all day taking wildlife photos I think. I just missed the last rays of light in that shot too. 5 minutes earlier and the evening sun would have lit up the feeder and bird. The background would still have been in the shade giving more background seperation. Although you don't quite need that when your subject is 10 feet away with a 300mm at f/2.8. Greg, whats your opinion on the 85mm 1.4 vs 105 dc?
  2. 1st and 3rd are great. I think the 1st shows what the 105 does really well. The idea in the 3rd is great and executed nicely, quite unique. First decent shot with the 300mm. The hummingbird made sure it was on the other side of the feeder so it's a shame you can't see it's beak. Edit - from this evening:
  3. I did buy it. It's an older AF-I model that is a hell of a lot cheaper than AF-S and even more so than the VR versions. My dad does falconry and should be getting a red tailed hawk soon so hopefully I'll be able to use it a lot for that. I also plan to do quite a bit of wildlife this winter. That is the plan anyway.
  4. Woot! Saw some great examples recently on Fred Miranda forums. You should love it.
  5. I got a 13" MBP for school. Nice but definitely could see the benefit of a 27" imac. For my PC I have a 24" Samsung. TN panel but it does a good job since I don't print much.
  6. Looks a bit better. What kind of monitor are you using Greg?
  7. Nice job! Seems odd for the print quality to be low.
  8. 2 more. This huge, vivid rainbow was only like this for a few moments before it faded:
  9. Yeah it was a pretty red sunrise. We got off the highway and just stopped in front of this field for the foreground. I don't usually shoot landscapes either although it is my favorite type of photography. That's why I expected a lot from the road trip. I'd actually have something to shoot compared to what is around locally. I've been using Photoshop for about 8 years or so and I love working with it. Definitely post up some shots if you go shoot with the guy. Does he have a website? 2 more:
  10. The first was intentionally underexposed. Two stop exposure blend for more detail in the foreground as the eye saw it. Here is original:
  11. Went on a road trip out west. Thought I was going to get a lot more shots, mostly my fault. Didn't plan it very well and ended up not having anywhere to stay a couple nights and just kept driving. Should have slept in the car. Here are the shots I've edited so far. Will post more later.
  12. I like that lighting in the first one legendsecko87. Nice portraits. Really like the high key, works well especially on the second.
  13. I remember you mentioning a while back about how bad a job they did. Medium format must be fun. That Yashica looks interesting too. Do you notice a huge difference when you use medium format? Just got the 11-16! Woot. Just messing around: Edited another. Detail in the face is lacking but I like the atmosphere:
  14. Thanks man. I wish I still had my F100, should not have sold it. But without being able to develop the film I wouldn't quite enjoy it as much. What camera and film are you going to use? Did you hear about Kodachrome? That sun is tiny lengendsecko87.
  15. Thanks! One more with some fog:
  16. Pretty disappointed with a lot of the shots today. Took about 400 out with the dogs on a run. Very foggy, perhaps expecting too much. Not many keepers. Just couldn't get any sort of detail in the dogs face. Happy with these two though. D700 would have been nice. Faster AF too.
  17. Yeah the flare can be annoying, sometimes it works well but with the last few I tried they didn't turn out. And thanks! For their cost I am really surprised how well they work. Since there is no glass there is no image quality degrading. The Kenko tubes also maintain AF, which for macro stuff isn't really important but it's still nice every once and a while. Thanks Greg. Yeah that one was with the 85mm. I had all three tubes stacked - 12, 20, and 36. It was just lit by two house lamps. I brought this small garden in a tub inside so I wouldn't have any wind to deal with for longer exposures. I wanted to try focus stacking too but didn't get it right. I mention Vivitar because the lens is sold under a few names and people will search for any of them, polar, bower, walimex, rokinon, vivitar, samyang, and falcon. Optically they are all the same but some are priced differently and look a bit different on the outside.
  18. I know you mentioned flare and the hood will definitely help with that. Otherwise your hand will work.
  19. Saw the second on Bimmerforums. Did you use a lens hood on it?
  20. lol, what the heck kind of get-together is that? Pompey? Nice upgrade! Post up some shots.
  21. Looks good, nice soft lighting. Bummer about the 105. Are they sending another?
