  1. I'd stick to Lensrental honestly, they really are that great. I've left filters on rented lenses several times and they always call me to verify it's mine then pay for the overnight shipping back to me.

Yeah their prices are better than my local place. Here is a huge review of a few online places if anyone is interested:

  2. I'm renting a 105mm f2DC for a gig on Tuesday and on Saturday. Looking forward to it. B)

Woot! Should be sweet. Do you rent locally or online? I've got a local place that seems to have good prices but I haven't tried them yet. May rent a big prime in the next two months. Nice shots too.

  3. Looks nice and versatile. But B&H says it supports 5.5 lbs which may not be enough for me.

Another lens I've always wanted along w/ the 300 f4:

That'd be a nice one too. I think I may save for a 300mm 2.8 AF-I. They can be had for 1700 or so and seem to work fantastically.

  4. Check out the benro ball heads.

Any model in particular? The Manfrotto heads seem to be highly recommended. Was looking at this one:

  5. The shot was done at

    F/7.1

    ISO100

    1/200"

So I could have stepped it down to stop overexposure?

Yeah that would have worked. Doesn't look like you'd lose any detail in the shadows if you did that. It may just be harsh mid-day sun reflecting off her. Tough to deal with harsh lighting.

  6. Thanks! I'll take them into mind. I've only really taken one photography class. I never really got "formal" traning, thanks for the advise though! I'm still a amateur.

As for the woman's face, could I just burn it more in Gimp?

If it's too far gone probably not. Would end up just looking grey instead of white. Doesn't have the skin tone you'd want. If it's too over exposed there isn't anything to work with for burning.

  7. Nice, I almost bought a Kenko tube off ebay a few months ago.

I am surprised how well they work. I shot that with the 135mm and didn't think it'd work well but I was surprised. Clearly my tripod head needs an upgrade though. Very rigid and not fluid.

Agree with gdizzle on that photo. Colors pop nicely.

  8. I hear you on the Primes. The 80-200 and the 24-70 is really the only zoom I use. I have the Tokina, but rarely use it now. If I'm shooting a wedding or event, the zooms are esential, I usually run the D300 with the 24-70 2.8 and the D200 with the 85 1.4. When I shoot portraits, the only zoom I use is the 80-200 and then I use the 50 1.4, 28 2.8 mostly.

Yeah with those zooms you really don't 'need' primes.

    Kenko extension tubes:

  9. I don't think I could part w/ the 80-200, I use it way to much. I've been really considering the 105DC, it's supposed to pretty money on the high key white seamless.

BTW, both shots are awesome. The creamy bokeh on the wheat is awesome, great use of the light too.

Yeah, I used mine a lot, my most used lens by far. But I felt like trying something different. The 135mm cost a bit more so I figured I could sell the 135 for the price I paid and then buy an AF-S 80-200 if I did not like the 135. I really like using primes more though and think I am going to stick with them. Besides the Tokina 11-16 I am getting soon I have a 50, 85, and 135. I really might try and save for one of the big gun primes like a 300 or 400 2.8.

The 105 is supposed to be just as good if not better from what I've read. A few people have said they think it's a tad sharper. I just thought it'd be too close to an 85 for now.

  10. Making me wish I had a 135DC. :(

:D Really love it so far. Today, out with the dogs, would have been the first day I'd want the zoom of the 80-200 but I didn't miss it at all. I don't know if I posted that here but I sold my 80-200 so I could get the 135mm.

  11. I paid 300 for my pointandshoot ,so yeah 350 is ok. So what is d50 Nikon or Canon.

And I guess my ^post might sound like " Noob looking for maad power" thread in performance section just photography wise :)

I just want you guys point me in the right direction so I'm not going to spend shitload of money on smth that I don't need.

    Thanx in advance

D50 is Nikon. I prefer Nikon but it doesn't really matter what company you end up with out of the big ones. The d50 performs very well especially for its price used. I don't know enough about Canon's equivalents to give you advice for them. You could also get a d70 for cheap. Adorama sells used equipment and that way you know everything is working and it comes with a short warranty in case something isn't right. Better than buying from craigslist.

    http://www.adorama.com/US%20%20%20%20395081.html

Get that and a 50mm 1.8 for $100 which is better than the kit lens in my opinion.

  12. Please! do not ignore this

i need your advice guys.i know i could search, but it's so much easier to ask somebody who knows what he's talking about. :pizza:

so i always wanted to get some semi pro camera ,and i just lost my pointandshoot Canon, so the time is right.

So back to advice : what camera do you guys think going to be suitable for a beginner better than my Canon ,and what price range is it?

    I'd really appreciate any input,all opinions .

What is your budget? A used D50 and either kit lens or 50mm can be had for Under $350. The d50 should be cheaper than Nikon's newer entry level cameras while allowing you to use their full range of lenses and not restricting yourself to af-s or manual focus only. The image quality is also great since it uses a ccd sensor.

  13. If some of you experienced guys could only carry three lenses what focal lengths would you choose?

3 zooms or primes? Either way I'd go with this:

    Tokina 11-16mm f2.8

    Nikon 85mm f1.4

    Nikon 135mm f2 dc or 200mm f2

I'm not much for the mid/normal range.
