  1. Citrus-based cleaners usually work pretty well on oil grime. Brake cleaner is pretty powerful too. I lack the chemistry knowledge to really know what is better without trial and error. FYI, I think most people around here are going to know it as an 'oil pan'. I don't know what level of service I'd expect from sending it out for cleaning, but I think I'd be a little disappointed that it came back still dirty. Seems like a fair question to start your own thread. Maybe provide some pictures too. I get what you mean about a quick question thread or something. A lot of people use this thread for that as you have, but I guess you have to know it's down here.
  2. It's an interesting problem. Quite the clusterfuck. By the time intelligence officials are being briefed on it, sounds like it's been in enough hands to at least acknowledge it's existence. Which is what CNN did. Seems BuzzFeed relegated themselves to tabloid status by publishing it though. If they wanted to be respected as a news organization, I don't see how that was the right move. How do you handle the problem of trying to be the first to publish? Seems like they're grappling with publishing basically living news articles, which they update as they go. At first glance, it doesn't seem like BuzzFeed spent much time fact checking.
  3. No, fake news has no actual business, no mailing address, no real names, no points of contact, no phone number, and/or an entirely fabricated story. Fake news is defined very easily from false, misleading, inaccurate, or biased news.
  4. I know this is probably the least relevant thing you said, but what basis do you have to say Bill Clinton is a serial rapist? The undertone of your post is that I somehow represent whatever the opposite of 'regular folks' are, that I'm somehow associated with 'anti trump folks running around like Chicken Little'. Just because I don't agree with everything you have to say does not mean I'm some pro-Hillary or pro-Bernie moron. I didn't like either. You're literally making shit up in your head. I don't care if you have a coal fired stove. WTF? Jill Stein isn't the only moonbat. What is the point of just e-shouting random things? Shit, that condescending guy on the internet randomly shouted to stop taxing all things. Guess I better look in to that.
  5. There is no widespread butthurt or crying. Who are 'you folks', who are you talking down to? It's not like this place was very pro-Hillary. You were always a little out there, but you've jumped in with those who like to hear themselves talk? Go pat yourself on the back for how awesome you are. Bernie was popular in part because he was seen as the anti-machine for the liberal minded. Right or wrong, that was the objective. You can't act like everyone was interested in machine politics. Paying for tax cuts by shrinking bloat sounds great. But what's the game plan? Trump will just 'be awesome' and it'll shrink? A big part of his campaign was strengthening the military and building a wall. That sounds like expansion to me. I'm not sure repealing the ACA is going to be enough to offset the tax cuts, especially if he'll be spending on military and a wall. Regardless of election results, you aren't concerned about a President-elect who while campaigning, openly suggested the Russians hack US computers, and that it happened? Even if his suggestion had nothing to do with it, McConnell, McCain and Ryan believe the Russians were attempting to influence our election. There's no concrete evidence released so far, but I doubt you'll ever have that. So are you really willing to disbelieve major republicans, the FBI, the CIA, the current President, and most of the democratic party? They all suggest it happened. That's a pretty large conspiracy. I understand the skepticism, but I don't understand this certainty people have about the issue. Fuck off with the snowflake shit. Go surround yourself with other like minded types at the nearest bar (be sure to check bumper stickers in the parking lot) and you can all talk about how terrible those people are. Granted, none of you have ever actually met one, but the news told you they're out there. Is it that hard to treat people of opposing views with some respect instead of basically school yard name calling? Are you interested in discussion?
  6. That's a false narrative that 'nobody questions' what the DNC did wrong. A lot of liberal leaning people felt the DNC did some things wrong. Particularly colluding to put Hillary ahead of Bernie. Progressive values might have value to the guy in the midwest, just different. If he's got 'nothing', it might be nice to have some healthcare, unemployment, or a food stamp card. Healthcare is a huge (I think #1?) cause of personal bankruptcy in the US. But he thinks that's wrong for the government to do. Government should be small. Instead, they definitely should also be responsible for putting him back in a job. What you're describing is the polarization. Which is really the core problem. People are thinking less independently, and more tribal. Instead of deciding whether something is good, they prioritize if it fits their party view. Both sides have become more extreme.
  7. http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/ Reasonably popular, especially with the Downhill/Freeride crowd. Probably not what you're looking for, but it's one of the majors. In New England, I believe most used bike stuff is on the Northeast Bike Classifieds group. Once again, probably still not what you're looking for, but maybe it can lead you in the right direction? Pretty sure you travel out this way often too.
  8. So are you having a serious discussion, or shitposting? Because if it's the latter, keep the discussion civil.
  9. I don't understand how what Kevin said was anything like that. He tried to make some serious points, then tried to play it off as a 'have a laugh for once'. For your analogy to work, Bernie bros or Clinton supporters would have done the opposite. Instead of protesting, they would have been like 'bah, it's not like we took this that seriously anyway'. This is a textbook example of strawman fallacy. His point was great, and no one challenged him on it. In fact, someone besides you voted the post up. To keep this topic focused on religion, since you bring up tolerance, should Muslims enjoy the same religious freedom in the US as Catholicism or Mormonism, etc? No additional screening at the border, no national database, and ability to build their place of worship anywhere they can buy?
  10. That just gave me the nails-on-chalkboard feeling. So will the tendons or whatever holds the ball in the socket start to tighten over time and the slop will go away?
  11. I see what you're saying, but I think it's a little different. He's lost religion. Which I've noticed can sometimes be like some of the types who lose alcohol with the help of AA. Some take it to the extreme and become preachy. All those drunks/churchgoers just don't get it, but they've been enlightened and need others to know. It's not that he doesn't respect religion. It's that he's bitter about it. Which I completely get. I would be too. But I don't know if he realizes he's gone from one extreme to the other.
  12. Then what's your purpose in sharing the link? So people already in agreement with you can high five? You don't seem very interested in the possibility that what you read was inaccurate.
  13. This isn't much different from when Trump supporters make political points, and then when it's pointed out how ridiculous or lazy the points are, they play it off like it was all just a joke or trolling. It's not like this is the first time you've gone shallow on the debate. I might think it has some cult-like qualities too, but I'm not going to have any meaningful discussion by starting it out like that. That's just insulting something he's devoted a huge part of his life to, and maybe even centered life decisions around. Considering he basically laughed it off, maybe you can dig deeper on at least one of the points and find something to signify it's in the realm of factual.
  14. Because that's sooooo 1999. Buy fancy plugs, and forget about them. Well, except it might be a good idea to check them a little more frequently than every 100k If you're running a lot of boost, I might see changing plugs more often as a preventative thing. I remember that NGK thing because I never liked the feel of torquing a bolt down with anti-seize or threadlocker on it. Makes me nervous.
  15. I don't think I ever have. I feel like I've seen a dab on Volvo blue-box plugs from the factory, but I took a quick look at pictures and I'm not seeing evidence of that. NGK recommends against it, saying no need because of their plating, and that the anti-seize may lead to over torquing because it has a lubrication effect. They were really in there that tight? Or are you just being super precautious? I've had the plugs take some force to remove. But a couple good twist 'impacts' with the ratchet and they'll usually break free. If you talk to people with experience on those infamous Ford F150 heads, where the threads like 2 coils deep and were easily damaged, they might have more extreme views.
  16. If you'll do $18, I'll be there in 4hrs.
  17. I can relate. Just put some money in to maintainence on my S90 going .... why am I bothering? Maybe it's time to drive something a little nicer. Granted, after I did I was happy to drive the car again so there's that. But it's still ancient. Cheap as hell to own, but maybe life's a little too short. The catch is I'm mostly on two wheels half the year. So my car is effectively my winter beater. And I'm pretty sure I only want to be driving RWD right now. Adult choices: Buy newer motorcycle, or buy E91 rwd wagon. Or drive beaters for life and any money on mortgage instead. Help me make adult decisions.
  18. Just taking a quick glance at their content, and the last post date and thread variety and comparing it here, I think it's comparable if you look at the Performance and Maintenance sections here. Maybe it's confirmation bias, but I think enthusiasm is down as a whole for the platform compared to where it was say 8-10 years ago which is what some of the older members here remember.
  19. There was an app, at least on iOS, from years ago but I think it's effectively defunct. I never understood the desire for apps. Especially when just wrapping webpages. I think most people are getting away from Tapatalk too. Just using the mobile skin. There's always been ebbs and flows over the years though I think this one's the longest. Not too many are putting money in to the 850/x70 cars anymore. And I think many around here have moved on to different platforms. P2 is kinda split between SS. And I'm not sure the P3's have caught on the way the P2's did. Which seems kinda odd since I really like those.
  20. Just curious, was that an advertised business, or unofficial word of mouth place?
  21. Folding bead will keep rotational unsprung mass down. The tires I just bought are folding. Though I found at low-ish pressures they do feel a little bouncy and noodle-y and wonder if wire bead would have improved that. It's pro/cons. I think most downhill tires are still wire, while most trail tires are folding. If you want pedal efficiency, I'd lean towards folding. They're also easier to get off the rim for a tube change. Oh and in the Nobby Nic's case pretty much all their tire configurations are folding. If you go wired, you can't go bigger than a 2.25. I say go wide - and that implies folding if you want the Nic.
  22. I probably wouldn't worry too much about weight savings on the stem. If anything, I might be more interested in strength for reduced flex. Either way, it's not that they're irrelevant, but there's better things to focus on. I certainly wouldn't spend more than a couple bucks to save 20 grams. Go to Schwalbe's site for explanations on tire options. That kinda stuff is usually poorly covered on different reseller sites. Maybe keep your eye out for a used fork? You can probably find a few year old Float for $250-300. Or how bout some ebay new-old stock? A Recon or Reba? I don't have opinions on either model, but who doesn't love some options. If you're chasing weight, I suspect any air fork is going to be a good bang for buck weight savings over a sprung model. Don't hold me too it though, you'll have to look it up. I found those from this search - I'm pretty sure you have a straight 1-1/8th steerer tube, threadless. All modern MTB are threadless, and it doesn't look like yours has the steerer tube that bells out to 1.5in at the bottom. Double check though. 29in, 100mm, and then pretty sure you need QR aka 9mm dropouts, and hub width is probably the default up until like this year of 100mm but measure. You could go a little longer and chopper the bike out a bit but that raises the bottom bracket up too, and will slow steering. Don't buy a used fork before measuring the minimum length you need from the steerer tube. Some might be too short for your bike.
  23. Stem: I just went from an 85 to a 60 and I should have done it sooner. But if you do a lot of climbing or hard-pack XC type stuff I'm not sure it's a good idea. But it makes choppy descents so much better, and surprisingly improved fast berm-type turns. I think that last one might be an issue more specific to me/my setup though. Bringing the stem back, you also have to factor in rise relative to the distance. 'Close enough' was fine for me. Tires: Depends on what you're riding. You may want to consider a better, but still faster roll tire in the rear, and knobby up front. Too wide with too narrow a rim can be a little awkward. I still haven't gone tubeless and I'm not sure I ever will. But I fill the tubes with sealant instead. If pinches and thorns haven't been a problem I'm not sure I'd be in a hurry to do tubeless. I put on a 2.4 Conti Trail King up front earlier this year and even though my rim might be a little narrow for it I love it. But it's probably overkill for long hardpack rides. With a 2.4/2.2 Trail King combo, I broke most of my personal bests. Front fork upgrade is tough because to buy new is so expensive, but it's such a meaningful part. Those suntour prices are tempting, but I'd be concerned that it won't have enough improvement. I'm not familiar with their line up though. When looking at forks, you need to consider several things but the major is hub width and axle size. Some hubs can get different end caps for different axle sizes but I bet yours don't offer that. Probably 100x15mm axle or 100x9mm Quick Release. Any rebound knob on your shock? That or upping the preload with some spring spacers might be able to correct some of the pogo.
