  1. I think this applies to everyone's profession/hobby. Everyone should just be an Automotive Engineer and then they will understand that their car doesn't get better MPG at 80 mph vs 55mph. Same as bikers saying if auto drivers actually tried their shoes on once, they might drive more carefully and give cyclists more respect. It's the whole my view point is so good and everything would be so much better if everyone thought just like me. Come to think of it, that sounds like a lot of Politicians midset.
  2. I rocked 15% in MD (legal is 35%) for ~ 3 years until I was pulled over. It was a fine and a fix it ticket. I want to say it was ~$90.
  3. So that's how you roll? Maybe its all the years of team shower rooms but I could not care less. Not saying I'll walk around with my bait and tackle on display but it also doesn't bother me if someone else does. I just keep my head high and maintain eye contact to assert dominance.
  4. That's a pretty big generalization. There are many other people who's tattoos have a deep meaning to them and often times help them cope with tragic events, ie loosing loved ones and getting a tattoo in memory. If you're willing to generalize people so quickly that's fine and your opinion will never change but in 2014 tattoos are as common as pierced ears.
  5. Most of those lip tattoos are gone in a few years. Also it's hidden so.....
  6. I thought the same thing until I rode a buddies. It just seems a lot easier to climb hills with obstacles without losing momentum or traction from the rear wheel bouncing around. I'm sure I have loads to improve on in the skill dept but that's harder to improve than the rig. I'd still keep the HT though and use it ocassionally. Like I said my parents ride but it's usually very mild trails where even a rigid would be fine. First one is too small I'm 6' but at least I can open my searches up a bit with these.
  7. Thanks for all the help guys. I just got into the sport last summer and decided I'd spends half of my tax return on a FS bike. I have a HT GT avalache now but I'd like to dedicate that to riding around with my parents (more leisurely but some trail). With a budget of $1500 is there anything else I should be looking for? I was leaning towards specialized because my brother's HT Rockhopper? seemed like a much more solid bike than mine. As far as SRAM vs Shimano, I'm guessing shimano is better quality overall, which is why you guys recommended it?
  8. Since Mike and Alden seem to be on the topic, what do you think is a fair price for this FSR? I was thinking if he can provide receipts of the work done and he throws in the extra's its worth his asking price. Without the extras I was thinking in the $1200 range.
  9. Drove a 2014 Mazda3 4door 2.0 6spd yesterday. Really considering trading in my TDI for a new 3. Much crisper handling and at 41 mpg highway I should see the same MPG with lower fuel costs. Ideally I'd like to wait a year or so to see what bugs are found with the new model.
  10. Yeah I posted this same thing in the R forum when Rob had issues. I worked at NTB in college. The first alignment is done by a high level tech, but each one after is normally done by a lube/tire tech. It comes down to the lube tech makes more money on the warranty alignment vs the higher level tech. I personally had no on the job training but I also had ~3 years experience at other shops. Your best bet is to watch the alignment and make sure they are actually doing the work and not just tapping the sensors into place.
  11. The only good thing (if you can call it that) is that the only 1983 Corvette produced was also in that same room and remained untouched
  12. Well CAFE standards are pushing fuel efficiency, and some automakers are smarter than others at it. In a passenger car 70%-90% of the power generated goes to aero drag (highway use). So logically auto makers should be focusing on aero #1 but very few are. Mostly because something shaped like an Insight or Prius doesn't sell well. So instead you get an all aluminum F150 that will never touch gravel, or have a full bed.
  13. New subs with their low friction oil rings are burning oil like no one's business. My coworker bought a 2013 impreza last year and it was burning ~2 qts/1000 miles They eventually re-ringed the motor and gave it back to him. Me: I'm thinking I replacing the tdi with a Mazda3. Not that the TDI is bad though.
  14. I always heard males had less accidents per mile, but drove more miles per year hence they have more accidents. But I'll second the minor fender bender vs totaled car. I wasted my miata, I also have no recollection of the accident at all. Whereas every girl I've know to be in an accident is due to weather and them bumping into someone.
  15. Fixed 69 would have been a C3, 63 was also the only year of the split window. And the plate says "63 ZR1" I'm glad he went for the C6 ZR1 and not the C4 ZR1 drive train. I'm not a fan of the wheels even though they are correct to the ZR1, they're just too big for the car.
  16. I'd have to buy a road bike, but possibly. Nothing like the old man crew whopping up on my 20'something ass. I think I tried Gambrill once. (I get that and the Frederick watershed confused) either way what I road was really rocky and technical. Far above my expertise. I didn't mind Seneca for those same reasons, it was a nice comfortable ride. I plan to make it down to Schaeffer, but I don't know if it'll be this year or next. I've heard nothing but good things about it
  17. I was trying to find my way from Seneca into Schaffer, but didn't manage to. Speaking of Patapsco I rode there yesterday with the folks. Mom has done some trails before but it was dad's first time and I think they enjoyed it. Patapsco is really busy on the weekends and no one understands trail etiquette. People hanging out at the bottom of stream crossings, people not yielding properly on uphills. Riding during the weekday is awesome though, I just have to yell "Bicycle" and the old couples go scurrying off the track pretty quick
  18. I have a bunch of vacation to use up before the end of the year so I've been making a habit to hit all the local parks. Seneca Creek State Park in Germantown, MD
  19. I'm fairly certain traction control is still in use in 4th gear so I'm going to go with yes.
  20. From this years drag day. I thought you guys would appreciate a Volvo Truck It's a D16 (16 Liter) mated to an Allison 6spd automatic transmission. It runs two turbo in parallel with two inter coolers, and two intake manifolds. The truck leaves in 3rd gear and has sheared the bolts off of the torque converter a few times. The truck would be faster leaving in 4th but Allison hasn't allowed us to leave in 4th gear. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmWP1p77Ewg
  21. you must have a death wish. I can't even drive in boston much less ride a bike. I liked riding my bmx because I could easily hop curbs and get out of danger quick. My 26er is a little tall for me to fully clear a curb.
  22. looks fun to me, asphalt scares me more, it's gotten to the point if I want to ride on asphalt I do it at 4am to avoid cars
  23. I am no longer active on this site, do not PM me unless you like waiting months for a reply
