  1. It's not too terribly exciting - just my garage. It's coming along nicely though. When we bought the house the garage was very bare - no insulation, no sheetrock, etc. very dark and with lots of terrible home made shelving. I tore all that stuff out, insulated the walls, sheetrocked it and painted it a nice bright white. I also rigged up some temporary lighting and even doing that really helped make the place usable. The main workbench area needs a little fine tuning but it's slowly morphing into a very nice workspace for both bike stuff and car stuff. It looks generally like this right now (except I didn't have the hose reel mounted yet in this pic), but those H&R boxes, Volvo boxes and the giant Heico box are all out of there now. Oh and the workbench is clean now too. One big advantage of having a small garage that you park your car in every night is that you're forced to keep it tidy and somewhat organized.
  2. Finally found a decent fork to match the Epic Comp frame I picked up a few months ago. The bike originally came with a Fox F100 from Specialized but I kept finding that people wanted dumb prices for them on the used market. Ending up picking up this Fox F80 instead for a great deal. Sure it's 20mm less travel but for how I'll be using this bike that should be A-OK. I'm excited to pick up the last few pieces I need to put this thing all the way together and ride it:
  3. Thanks! I'm really happy with how it turned out.
  4. Only place I have met more non natives than Portland is Denver. I lived there for a while about 10 years ago when I was working at DU and no one was from there. I worked in the athletic department and I think about 2 of the over 20 people in my division were from Colorado at all. I was back last year for a few days to go to a Bronco game to watch Peyton brake the TD pass record and it was even more so. Everyone I talked to, short of the guy we sat next to at the game was from somewhere else. Also back on topic you should definitely pick up that Santa Cruz!
  5. Thanks! Thanks dude. Everyone else in the world is moving to Portland, so why not :)
  6. Tidying up the last couple details on the blue All City. Just need to take it out for a few miles to finalize all the contact points then wrap the bars and all done.
  7. Thanks -- yeah, I do follow them on Instagram. I like all their stuff -- they've really developed a lot over the last few years and I'm really impressed with their progression and their brand. You always know a Geekhouse when you see one! I wasn't totally sure on the color until I saw it in person. It really does work well for this bike. Here's a more illustrative picture of where the bar sit -- They're pretty far back and while it's surprisingly comfortable where they are, I am considering sawing off about an inch off the ends to move the grips a bit further forward. I'm still a little on the fence on the bars -- they're a lot more comfortable and natural feeling on this bike than I expected though. Thanks! And yes, easy to swap them around. 4 bolts and the stem faceplate comes off, one bolt and the brake lever slides off. This stem is 25.4 and I've got a Nitto "standard" flat bar and Nitto classic drop bar both in 25.4 already in the garage. I'm sure I'll change it up depending. Oh, and since I was in bike building mode this weekend I finished up more details on the new All City too. Just need pedals, trim down the fork steerer a bit and wrap bars and it's ready to ride as well:
  8. Finally got a brake mounted up so I could ride the Geekhouse. Only about 20 miles on it so far over the weekend/this morning but I like it so far. Not totally sure on keeping these bars though. I got some other ones in the garage to swap around to see what feels right.
  9. Finally finishing up the Geekhouse -- just need to mount a front brake and it's ready to ride. Trying it out with a backsweep bar to see how I like it. Also finishing up the All city. Decided on H Plus Son SL42 wheels since Velomine had them for a great deal. Plus they're laced to 105 5800 hubs so I can make the move to 11s with these if I want to. Finished them off with Paul skewers and Vittoria Open Corsa SC tires:
  10. Took the busted up bike to a local shop and had them quote it all out for me. They wrote up a full repair bill and I submitted that to the insurance company. Once the adjuster finished all his inquiry/investigation/determination of fault stuff they cut me a check for the amount quoted for the repair.
  11. Well, I certainly wanted to but... instead it came out in some choice vocabulary. His auto insurance paid for it. Took them too long, but they did.
  12. Thanks! I'm very happy with how both of them are shaping up and excited to get them out and put miles on them. Short version is I was crossing an intersection and got hit by a guy turning right on a red. It was 100% his fault and thankfully he wasn't going that fast yet since he was taking off from a stop. Still hit me hard enough to take the bike out from under me and bounce me off the hood though. One upside is that since the All City was my commuter/rain bike I'd been mostly off my Cielo since the fall. Been riding it exclusively the last couple months and putting good miles on it. Love this bike:
  13. Building up a couple new bikes simultaneously right now. First is a new All-City Mr. Pink. I got hit by a car a couple months ago while riding my red All-City (I'm fine but the bike is dead) so this is the replacement: Scored some good deals on parts so it'll be built up with a mix of Thomson, ENVE, Chris King and SRAM Red. Just need to decide on/build wheels for it and it'll be good to go. I also came up on a good deal on a Geekhouse Rockcity frameset. I had pretty much all the parts sitting around already to build it so I figured why not, even though I'm sure I'll get plenty of hipster accusations For now it'll be set up with Thomson seatpost/collar/stem, Chris King Headset, Fizik saddle, Paul Components cranks and a mismatched wheelset (Velocity rear/H Plus Son TB14 front). It'll change over time too I'm sure. New wheelset eventually for sure and I still need to decide what bars and front brake I want to run on it.
  14. Wife had a work training in Bend last week for a couple days so I tagged along and rode around while she was in class. Lots of great riding in the area I hadn't ridden before.
  15. Dang - baller status officially achieved.
  16. I agree! However, gold centered Fikses on a safari green S40 might be a bit much. You should buy them from me for your R... Gold centered on matte sonic blue would be a'ight. Weird, right? They're 18s, but look disproportionately small on the car for some reason. The dark color of them might contribute to that.
  17. Trade is a possibility, but I don't think the Odysseus would do it for me. I like them, but don't think they'd look good on the S40 really. I'll trade ya for cash though If you wanted them I'd sell them for $1300 for the set with tires.
  18. Anyone local interested in a set of 18x8 Fikse FM10s? I just put these on my S40 a couple days ago and am not sold on them for this particular car. Yes, I'm fickle.
  19. Plus you're guaranteed to get a better deal if you buy "old" tech. Lots of people are eager to get the newest version of whatever and that means you can pick up the so-called outdated stuff for a much better deal. I actually picked up the Epic Comp via the Paceline forum. Mostly a road bike forum but lots of bike dudes are into lots of different kinds of bikes so deals come up.
  20. No S-Works - just regular Epic Comp. It's a 2010 so 26" wheels which I wanted. Picked it up cheap and excited to build it up. Planning on building it up 1x10. Right now I'm thinking I'll use Shimano ZEE crank/shifter/RD. It's supposed to be good mid-level stuff and it's pretty dang affordable via Wiggle. Probably finish it off with stuff I have laying around. Already have pedals, bars/grips, headset, seatpost, saddle, chain etc. Need to figure out what wheels I want to run and what front fork too. It'll probably depend on what I can find good deals on.
  21. This should be landing on my doorstep tomorrow
  22. I did. Good hub info there for sure. However I already have the hubset I'll be using. Main decision left for the wheelset is which rims to use with them.
