You are right, IMHO it should not be illegal. You said it best, it was not a good choice given his situation. Allow me to add another fact. Since it is illegal and that is the reality that we are faced with, it is never a good choice. If a person makes that choice, than as an employer I am left to think that they might make other illegal choices. As an insurer I am left to believe that this person may be under the influence of the direct or indirect residuals of this drug. As a fellow job seeker I will a make point that this is an individual who shows lack of self control and I am a candidate of sounder mind and decisions. I don't mean to come off negatively, but these are consequences. This is not so much a harsh outcome, these are the detrimental effects of his choice to abuse an illegal substance. Substance abuse is the overindulgence in and dependence of a drug or other chemical leading to effects that are detrimental to the individual's physical and mental health, or the welfare of others.

Why do people mention all these good things they do when they mention their drug use? Obviously none of this mattered because he choose to risk it all with illegal activity. I agree that this particular drug seems to be abused by more people who seem to be able to maintain most functionality in their life. However it is still illegal and competition will win. Remember that there is always someone waiting to take your job, money, freedom or property. It’s called competition and if it’s in the rule book it can and will be used against you. By knowingly partaking in this illegal activity you’re giving an upper hand to your competition. Whether it’s an insurance company, employer, prospective interviewee or so on. Why would you give someone an advantage that is possibly less qualified and skilled than you? Why would give an insurance company a reason to not cover you? Why would you give an employer a reason to fire you? Why would you plan your life and ability to be happy around substance abuse? Addiction can and will convince you that you have no problem. However, it is fact that substance abuse leads to one of three things. Jails, institutions or death. I hate that people struggle with this, I only hope that they will want more for themselves and I wish them the best.

America is a country set up on a consumer based capitalism right? What if the consumers have no money? What good is a job if you can't keep the money? What good is a rich company if nobody is buying their crap? How can the economy survive without consumers? It's the rich that want to scare you into thinking all will fail if you take any of their money. There has to be a good mix of incentives for companies to do business in America and create jobs along with keeping the middle class with expendable income to fuel consumption. Too much on either side is not good. But as a middle class person if I had to have it one way, show me the tax break. As for Palin, she is a broken record. Over and over with the same crap.
