  1. Just replaced valve stem seals and re-did the cam cover crankcase baffles. I dropped a keeper that I assumed flew out of the valve cover. I guess it didn't...  Motor may need to come out, I'm waiting for the morning for a full diagnosis.

    :(

Sorry to hear that man. Those keepers are little bitches to get back in! I assume you've poked around with a little extendable magnet to see if you can pick it up?

  2.  Sanders is going to give Hillary all kinds of problems and that is going to force her to move to Left which will ensure a polarizing election once again.

Perhaps, but we all know that politicians will say one thing during the election cycle and do something else when elected.

I just wish the news would lay off on the nonsense bullshit and actually have real discussions. This interview with Sanders is a perfect example, and I'm glad he called the interviewer out on it: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/23/magazine/bernie-sanders-has-heard-about-that-hashtag.html?_r=1

  3. I'm horrible at math. Can anyone help me figure out what the % drop or change in alternator RPM would be going from a stock 56mm OD pulley, to a 70mm OD pulley? Basically 1/2" increase in diameter.

Alternator speed will be reduced to 80% of the original speed. At 8krpm with the new pulley, the alt will be spinning the same speed as it was with the old pulley and the engine running at 6,400rpm. :)

  4. Hah. Like I'm going to compare any of the stuff that we do with F1. That's probably made out of kryptonite. ;)

Getting into a bit of an unrelated tangent here, but "Pistons must be manufactured from an aluminium alloy which is either Al-Si ; Al-Cu ; Al-Mg or Al-Zn based."

The material itself isn't anything special, it's just the design and tolerances they hold that make it work. There's nothing but engineering cost and reliability stopping us here

  5. Hippie!!

Out of curiosity, where do you think I stand on those issues?

Ultimately, the way things are going now can't remain. There have been enough societal and technological changes that requires a substantial change to the way the government functions for a proper balance. Right now, I feel like the government is stuck in the past, and is too stubborn to find a way to become more useful to the people it serves.

What should be done to fix it? No idea. Maybe put more engineers into offices of political power

  6. Don't worry too much about the size of the compressor itself, compare the compressor maps.

    20G, 1 kg/s = 132.3 lb/min, so the peak flow is around 42.5 lb/min

The GTX3076 flow map, peak flow of about 65 lb/min

    GTX3076R%20comp_e.jpg

The important thing to note here is how the 20G isn't really suited for boost pressure over 2.5:1, or around 20-22psi.

If anything, the GTX3076R is too big, the GTX3071R is probably a better match :)

  7. If airflow and AFR remains constant, IDC will increase to 89-90% at 7500 rpm. If you get more air or run a little richer, it's gonna be even higher IDC. Past 80-85% at those RPMs, the injectors are basically saturated anyhow; there probably isn't enough time for the pintle to close all the way. You'd have to know the actual rise/fall time of the injector to be sure, but I'd say you're running dangerously close to the limit of those injectors.

That intake manifold looks pretty good. I gotta get in touch with Nathan soon :D

  8. Whats the price on that exh manifold? Hard to believe that nobody makes these in NA.

    RSI makes manifolds:

I was gonna make some for myself, H and Ben, but as was said earlier in the thread, just don't have the time to fabricate the design we came up with. <_<

  9. I love how the first dummy to fly out of the car is the last one to land

1.8T Quatro. I dunno too much about Audi's, but I think I'll be reading up on them soon.

The one thing I do know he's got on his side is that he's driving the honda of germany.

They are a pain to work on compared to the Volvos, I know that much
