Agreed, works well on that car. I did price out a OSD V90 R-Design yesterday. Even without some of the pricier add-ons like sound system, etc... I was at $61,600.

Fairly certain that my current wagon will be my last Volvo wagon for a very long time.

Considering a turbo Sentra is now 32k (vomit) this is the unfortunate world in which we live. New cars are just outragesly expensive.

  2. Got the Snabb intercooler kit (standard model) installed yesterday. As I'm sure most of you have guessed, vast improvement over stock, especially with the warm temps we now have in TN. Fit and finish was really nice, not too bad of an install, though a few choice words were used at times. But it's silicone, who doesn't?

Also got the PCV system knocked out while doing the IC. Surprisingly clean for 118K. The PO must have kept up with the oil changes pretty well.

Once I wash the car I'll take some pics of the new IC. Also have to buy some 3M double sided tape and install the wiper delete plugs I've had sitting in my toolbox for 6 months.

  3. Trent,

Got the inserts installed yesterday afternoon and I'm loving them. Bumps feel much smoother and since installing the track spec sway bars I had some uncertainty (for lack of a better word) in high speed cornering. All of that seems to be eliminated. Also, no detectable vibration added to the cabin. Great upgrade IMO for 68 bucks.

It should be noted that I'm on stock LCA bushings that are in good shape, but original. My guess is the lack of "give" in your suspension is causing this.

  4. Update on the over boost situation. After setting the waste gate at 4psi cracking pressure I drove the car for a few days and was able to maintain a stable 15psi max with a new OEM TCV. Decided to turn the waste gate two more full rotations, drove gently for a few days and now the boost builds more quickly and still holds at 15. I intend to turn a few more times, do the same drive cycle and see what happens.

For what it's worth I marked the initial position of the waste gate rod. So I'm trying to determine if the waste gate was out of adjustment or if the TCV had completely shit the bed.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I had the IPD subframe inserts hit the mailbox this week, just need a free lift and a few minutes to install them. Will post results when they are installed.

  5. Not something you can order, but something you can have done easily. It just involves cutting out the resonator in the middle of the exhaust and welding in a straight pipe. If you still have the stock down pipe it gives the exhuast a much nicer sound, plus a little extra power to boot. Mine cost $6 and some change, but that's because I did it myself. I'm sure most exhuast shops would do this for under $100.

  6. Yea, I was thinking the DP was partially to blame. I turned the waste gate down to 4psi cracking pressure and I've been inching it up since with the new TCV. No more over boost, but in most gears I'm getting about 12psi. Of course I'd rather have 12 than 30!

The self tune looks interesting, but I would have l lots of research to do before jumping into that.

  7. Great looking car!

I wonder, is Flash Green the rarest color?

Anyway, looks like you're making good progress with it.

Let us all know if you have any success restoring your leather.

    Bob

Not sure if it's THE rarest, but very few around. Next step is going to be trying leatherique to see what it can do.

    Josh,

    That is coming along nicely!

Perhaps you can save your pennies and get a set of the Atacama 'colored' seat leather from George.

I reckon this will give you the look and offer better wear than the existing atacama.

    (or get the leather re-finished/dyed)

I would love to go this route. Unfortuantely I don't have the time or money to get this done. Maybe in the future...

That is a sweet ride. Any plans to lower it? And what tune are you running?

I've been offered some lowering springs, and I'll probably kick myself later, but I don't think I'm going to lower it. Being that it's a daily I just don't want to contend with the tire wear issues. No tune either, that's why the overboost problem is a bit of a head scratcher. Think I've got it under control though.

I like it.  As for the leather, it's in a state where you can just ignore it and not worry about it.  You don't have to worry about eating in the car, spilling a little coffee or soda or any other possible "whoops" moments.  Just enjoy the ride.  Maybe they can take a good cleaning/conditioning but I'd just leave the seats alone.  One less thing to worry about.

As for the rest of the car, it's coming along nicely.  I still can't believe what you paid for it and that it's STILL a decent driver after the work you've done (albeit quite a lot of work) so you have to be proud of the results.  I'm impressed.

I am pleased with it still, even though I do cuss it every now and then.

  8. Since it's been a few months I thought I'd share some updates. Turns out, this car was poorly cared for. I'm pretty sure the previous owner knew what was coming and decided to trade. Also, I sold the SR back in December so my insurance is back to manageable. Since purchase 7 months ago I've done the following:

OEM clutch w/ single mass flywheel from VIVA

New intermediate lever and shift cables due to broken cables when trans was removed

Replaced angle gear collar and installed used angle gear

    OEM plugs and coils

    Fuel pressure sensor

    Snabb intake pipe

    Forge CBV

18"  OEM Pegs w/ new tires

Kenwood DNX 419, Sirius and back up camera

    IPD Track Spec swaybars

    DIY strut bar conversion

    OBX down pipe

    Resonator delete

    OEM TCV

    Reverse light switch

What I've got left to do:

    Snabb FMIC kit

    Slightly used shocks this summer

    IPD subframe inserts (back ordered)

I'm still battling some over boost issues and the front shocks are pouring oil. Not pictured are the OEM load bars that are sitting in my garage. They will share dual duty between my car and Mom's 06 V70 2.5T. I still smile every day I get to drive this thing. Plans for the future are to upgrade further and in the next few years buy an auto R for daily use and put the FG in the garage. Currently at 117k and wanting to keep the miles relatively low. Will post pics once the FMIC is installed.

    Anyways, on to the pics.

As mentioned previously the PO let his dogs and children run amuck. Here are the damage photos

I know I've never posted a picture of the trailer hitch, but it's quite an odd looking creature.
