Yeah, they've had a bad one two punch of the fires this past summer and now this. Think he was a little north of where it washed away. Seems like a section of Hwy 1 falls off every couple years now.

Apparently the front brake pads started to melt or something like that and flake off as he was coming down the mountain last night. Duralast ceramics from Autozone.

We're swapping those out later today and trying out some semi-metallics to see what happens. Thinking its a bad batch or something

I mean the proportioning valve is bad. This just happened on my buddies Celica. Brakes worked fine, bled them, squishy pedal, bled them another 20-30 times (no kidding) still the same. New proportioning valve, bled once, boom. Good as new. There has to be something about them getting air or something, cause we pulled 6 junkyard ones and they didn't work. Had to get a new one ($180) but brakes work perfectly.

Derrr...I gotcha. Ill ask him if he's ever heard of it going back on Taco's as well. What year was the Celica? My roommates Tacoma is a 2001.

Doing some adjustments to the rear drums seemed to help late last night. Tonight was getting the front all put back together. Taking it for a test drive after work tomorrow to confirm.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I have never seen a pad compress. I have seen sponges compress, but never a brake pad.

Try finding a diagram for the bleeding sequence. Sometimes the logical sequence isn't the right sequence.

Not familiar with the Yota, but I worked on an older Ford one time that had an ABS valve in the middle of the line that had to be bled...

Still havent figured out a cause behind this and we plan on hauling a couple 4x4's on a trailer up to Big Bear so if we cant figure it out we might not be able to.

Sure you guys are bleeding in the correct order? Sounds like you have air trapped somewhere.

Pads don't compress.

Hes going farthest to closest, so passenger side rear being the first one.

When he presses down on the pedal you can physically see the pad itself compress, its the weirdest thing.

Roommate is installing new brake pads on his Tacoma right now and we are working through trying to diagnose a pedal that's still squishy. We've replaced the master cylinder and plenty of bleeding have been done and we still cant figure it out. The one thing we noticed was the actual ceramic pad compressing against the rotor. I did a quick search and didn't come up with anything conclusive. So the stupid question is, are brake pads themselves supposed to compress?

Yea, they opened the tunnel a little while ago, have not been through it yet. Took them 8 years to build it. They are going to open the old Hwy 1 as a foot/bike path soon I have read.

I agree there move was bold. My prediction is that the rockshed is so heavy, that its going to end up taking that whole mountain down into the ocean some day... specially if we get a big shaker. The problem here is there is no where else to go with a road really. If it does slide out, I invision them just giving up on it and not having this strech of the coast road, diverting it to the 101 from Monterey/ Salinas down to San Luis Obispo.

And lose a major tourist attraction? Dont think they would do that unless like you say, they got a big quake and it took out a whole chunk of roadway. All a matter of how much money they want to throw at it I guess.

Anyone know what the heck this is called or even better, the PN for it? Held the interior trim piece along the top and side of the rear tailgate.
