  4. I am learning. Although I feel I am pretty good with a wrench and know a little about what goes on "under the covers" with my car. I have found that there are a few folks here whose knowledge seems nearly "encyclopedic". I come here most frequently when I am in the middle of something with one of my cars, be it performance or maintenance or much to my wife's dismay, shopping. I know I hold my ground a bit too firmly occasionally but try not to resort to name calling (mostly). I just bought another car, a 99 S70 for $600 because it has tranny trouble. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing so without the resources available on VS. Thanks to everyone who makes it the resource that it is. As far as the aftermarket goes. I am thrilled. When I bought my R in 01, there wasn't much available. I'm guessing that this site and perhaps other like it, are, in the main, responsible for the surge over the past few years in the wide variety of bits and pieces that have become available. Frequently, you actually have a choice of competing products. Props to Chuck for keeping it going. Props to the rest of you for keeping it alive.
  5. Really, you can thank your buddy Obama. In 2005 George W. pushed for tighter controls in the mortgage banking business. That was shot down of course by congress and the #1 recipient of Freddie Mac PAC money (some 19 million dollars) your new president. I wonder where that 19 million went?
  6. VS is a great forum where most of us have learned tons about our cars. It is about sharing information and in that it succeeds remarkably well. Vendors are just that, vendors. Those that deliver a quality product and good service will, regardless of price point, get repeat and new business and lots of "word of mouth" here on this site. Bravo.
  7. When Volvo introduced the R, it came with more engine performance and more things that you wanted to look at. With the latest R models, you got more engine, brakes that you didn't want to upgrade, suspension that was a cut above and styling, all in all a good attempt I think. Sacred land? Maybe not but you and I would still rather have an R than not.
  8. They should have used another letter and disassociated the"R" from these new cars. Maybe they could use "SR" for Siegfried and Roy or some other illusionist. It will make me want to get rid of any "R" reference on my car. We are pretty much screwed anyway as new Camrys and Accords will out perform our cars. Somehow, Chevy can build an HHR SS for $25K ($495 for LSD and Brembos!!!) that will handle better and go better but Volvo give us a newt.
  9. For example, Volvo parts USA has 18 in. pegs for $294.62. You will need to "drill down" through the body parts catalog to find them.
  10. Looks like I am keeping Utah just ahead of Wyoming.
  11. When I picked up my car, the first thing I looked for was info on how to mod it and where to get those mods. I think the site has improved in the 4 years I have been paying attention. I also like the Google search feature, now I can find pertinent data fast. I hope everyone has a chance to use the spell check button. The current P2 crowd may be firmly entrenched but I believe that many of us will migrate to or add a P2 car to our stable. This will hopefully bring the kind of knowledge and support that most of our aging cars now enjoy. I don't know enough about what it takes to keep us up and running but I like the sites "freedom". If adding corporate Nazi's would detract from that, I hope there is an option that keeps the site a worthwhile endeavor for Charles.
  12. I guess that's one vote (perhaps the only valid vote) FOR Jihad.
  13. I realize that even the thinnest paper has two sides. If I was Evolve, I would be posting in Volvo sites with my side of the story or at least responding to the customer. This is obviously a thread of some considerable interest here indicating a meaningful potential customer base.
  14. I am quite sure that as a group, VS members and likely other Volvo boards, can agree that Evolve should get none of their business until such a time that there is a satisfactory resolution/explanation to Matt's situation. I know at times it is difficult to boycott companies when they have appealing goods or services but further patronage of Evolve only supports their position that no action is required on their part.
  15. Picture is good, spelling....nice try.
  16. Only if you cut a hole in the airbox to get that "cumbustion aiding" warm air a flowing.
  17. It is an aftermarket filter that allows you to suck warm air from under the hood, make a bit more noise and of course, net 10 WHP. (15 w/ turbo models)
  18. You should have sepArated the axle from the hub before removing the control arm stuff by whacking it with a mallet. Get a puller. Pull the whole thing out of the tranny. You may need to pry a bit. Put new seals in the tranny while you are at it. The axle will snap back in place.
