  1. I actually need the same mount for my 98 V70 GLT. Looking at your site, I see where you refer to whether the vehicle has 11 or 12" disc's. Huh? Why does that matter? I looked up in Vadis and it has a chassis number and Alter 1/2. How do I figure out which is which. I have the 11" disc and chassis is 2362298. Is it the $25 or the Genuiine $100 item?

This one has always been tricky

I come up with this for an application guide:

    S70 Turbo '98 thru '00

    thru Ch.# 565000

    AWD

    V70 Turbo '98 thru '00 X-Country

    thru Ch.# 540000

    W/2.4 Engine

    Can we confirm with Vadis?

    The part number is 8631699.

Aftermarket is a viable option. Never had any of these come back.

  2. Alright, I'm back. Took a bit of a sabbatical, but I'm back and I'm changing my question a bit.

Right now, I'm checking some Volvo sites, for the front right lower engine mount. Some of them have the OEM one, which costs about 100 bucks, and there are aftermarket ones that cost around 40 bucks. I'm just wondering if the aftermarket one will hold up to my expectations, and is worth buying.

    Linky

    What is the #?

  3. how'd you find me on facebook anyways?

btw this past transaction with them has been nothing short of awesome. Quick responses and kept me informed through the entire process.

i gotta find more stuff to order :)

Just took your email provided on previous order and "invited friends"

Glad you are happy with the experience.

  4. has the discount gone into effect now? I need to make a somewhat big purchase and the discount will greatly help.

Only to be fair, the discount is only available to supporting members. Last time I checked it is fairly inexpensive and the savings from one order from our company would far exceed the amount to become a supporting member. It also helps VS keep running its expensive server.

  5. i need a slue of OEM parts.

my order is coming your way ;) haha

although i've always bought my OEM parts from FCP, so this is just a plus once you get the rebate going, and i get my supporting membership lol

Any differences between the Autobahn hoses and the Samco hoses? We are looking at contacting one of these companies.

  6. Another vote here to lose Scan-Tech as a supplier.

If your manufacturer description says "Aftermarket" I will go with a different company for fear of getting a Scan Tech part.

It's not the cost of the part that's the issue in this case, but the labor. Nobody wants to do a motor mount job only to have the mount fail in an unreasonably short time.

I'm willing to wait a little bit longer and pay a little more to avoid getting a Scan-Tech part.

I also hate it when I order a left and a right part and the brands don't match. Got a Scan Tech ball joint and something by a different manufacturer in the same order. The Scan-Tech part was a PAIN to install, the other, no problem whatsoever.

IPD is still my first choice, Eeuroparts and FCP are tied for second.

Thank you for your input Mr. Yuck,

Unfortunatley dropping the Scan-tech line because of some general statements toward the quality is not an option. They are, after all the leading supplier of Volvo and Saab spare parts in the world. I encourage everyone to do their own due diligence towards a companies quality/ research and development, and ultimately make their own decisions. I will tell you however, for the past seven years roughly 40 thousand dollars worth of inventory passes through our doors daily whether incoming or outgoing. Every product we have ever sold I have physically touched at one point or another. I know the people behind the products, what they stand for, what their morals and ethics are, and business practices in general. I hope that you are all starting to know myself and FCP on a personal level and trust that we are not going to allow a product to be sold to a customer knowing that we could potentially be putting them or their family at risk. Anyone or anything I put my personal guarantee on I am going to defend. That is the type of company we are and that is the type of person I am.

Scan-tech is owned by Dorman Products:

Dorman Products Inc. (Dorman) is a supplier of original equipment dealer exclusive automotive replacement parts, and fasteners and service line products primarily for the automotive aftermarket. The Company designs, packages and markets approximately 92,000 different automotive replacement parts (including brake parts), fasteners and service line products manufactured to its specifications. Approximately 35% of its parts and 69% of its net sales consist of original equipment dealer exclusive parts and fasteners. Original equipment dealer exclusive parts are those, which were traditionally available to consumers only from original equipment manufacturers or salvage yards and include, among other parts, intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, oil cooler lines, window regulators, radiator fan assemblies, power steering pulleys and harmonic balancers. Fasteners include such items as oil drain plugs and wheel lug nuts

Scan-tech invest millions of dollars toward quality control and research and development, and is in full accordance to is 9001 standards which many aftermarket suppliers are not

Scan-tech supports the Volvo community and gives all Volvo owners with a low cost alternative to maintain and repair their vehicle.

They don't hide their contact info, in fact they encourage you all to give them feedback and let them know what they could do better.

Stop talking about them, and talk to them. Let them know how you feel. Work with them to make your community stronger.

If you have a problem with a part, or had a problem with a part let them know.

They don't hide their contact info, and in case you missed it on their site, its listed below. What they do from that point is beyond your control, my control, or FCP's control but it will ultimately decide their existence.

  7. I have been an FCP customer for a number of years.....

I miss the old site

Everyone misses the old site.... we MAY be able to re-incarnate it simply as a resource.

The old site was archaic. It was just plain html and that design would not support the retail management software that we use (and that retail management software has been fundamental to our development and growth)

Actually, because everyone dislikes the design of the current FCP Groton website, a new version will be released on Monday that we have been working several months. We have taken all of your advice and tried to produce something that everyone would be happy with while confirming to the criteria of our backend software.

Hope you guys all like. Thank you again for the support.

  8. Hey FCPGroton,

Its awesome to have you on the VS forum! Its nice to know that some parts suppliers really do care about their customers.

I have a question for you guys though, at this moment, I'm looking at motor mounts. I see the OEM mounts, and the aftermarket ones. One a couple of the aftermarket mounts, it says "Guaranteed OEM Quality and Fitment". The OEM one costs 100 bucks, while the aftermarket one costs a quarter of that. I can't say I'm not intrigued by the aftermarket one, but I want to know if its worth the money.

Should I give the aftermarket mount a try, or should I just buy the OEM one?

What part number/s are you looking at?

  9. I'd like it if you could throw a cookie (or whatever) on my computer that remembers my make, model and year like Autozone, Kragen, o'Reileys, etc websites do. They even remember that I have two Volvos and have a single pulldown to select which one I'm looking for parts for. I really get annoyed having to drill down through the pulldowns everytime I go to buy a part. Is is a big deal, no. Just mildly annoying.

Oh yeah - thanks for having USPS priority mail shipping. For a west-coaster who always seems to wait until Wednesday to order the next weekend's parts, it's appreciated to know there's an economical and quick alternative to FedEx or UPS 2-day.

That is actually one of the topics covered on our recent survey (people want their vehicle saved) and we agree also. We contacted our graphic designer/ webmaster and our third party retail management software company and we are going to try our best to make this happen for you.

We were thinking about publishing the results and the comments of the survey (email addresses excluded obviously). Do you think anyone that made a comment would have an objection? Your comments will potentially be seen, but no email associated so no one will know who made the comments.

  10. I hear you guys, just thought it was odd that you had to be a member to get the discount.

Since i buy alot of stuff at FCP, clearly its a no brainer.

Its quite simple. We all support each other.

Life is a give and take.

  11. Publicly I would say that you didn't meet the customer service expectations that I mentioned in my description of my current supplier.

I would also concede that maybe I'm not the type of customer you want. I'm just a guy trying to learn as I go how to repair my car and as such will have some n00b questions.

This was indeed within the past 2 years.

At any rate, if it's useful to you pm me your contact info and I'll go back through my receipts and notes and as a courtesy give you a call with the specifics.

Again, I extend my apologies. We realize that many of our customers are do it yourselfers trying to learn as you go, so we have hired a certified tech within the past 6 months. His name is Michael Rivera available at 877-634-0063 ext 206 and welcomes anyone that needs assistance irregardless if you have purchase or intend to purchase parts from us.

Also, if you let me know your details I can find out the sales rep that took your order and possibly identify this weakness in our organization.

  12. I'm not going to give you any heat but I will point out a bit of irony. By your definition I'm the type of customer you want yet you lost my business while being abused by a majority of customers that scream and yell.

I really hope that you aren't abused by the majority of your customers as you state. If you are I hope for your sake your current efforts attract some more reasonable people to deal with.

I have to ask, what exactly did we do to loose your business. Like I stated before, the majority of the seven or so years we have been in business it was only Nick and myself, so there is a good chance that it was one of us that you dealt with on a personal level. If it was current (in the past year or two), it might not have been Nick or myself. Either way I think it would be beneficial for us both that we determine the root of the problem.

  13. Maybe I'm in the minority here but I'm more of a loyal customer than a 'where and how can I save a few bucks kind of guy'. I tried to order parts from FCP in the past but got turned off by poor customer service – maybe that was when you were feeling major growing pains.

Now I have a supplier that I email my parts needs, he sends me back a price and I call with my credit card. He answers questions and seems genuinely happy to have me as a customer.

I like what you are doing here I think it's a great sign that you are trying to be involved and move in a positive direction.

BTW you mentioned that you're moving to web 2.0 what does that mean for the customers? I was always under the impression that was a comment made to imply more of a social networking approach, but I'd be interested to hear what you have planned.

    -Rob

Oh Boy, I may get a little bit of heat by saying this. You state, "He answers my questions and seems to genuinely happy to have me as a customer." Well, I say "They work with me, understanding the demands they put on me and seem happy to have me as a vendor" - is that so wrong, after all we are human too.

Straight up we got abused by a majority of the customers- being screamed at, yelled at, cussed out, demands here, demands there- and those demands unreasonable at best. It's something I wouldn't tolerate in my personal life, but required to take the abuse in a work environment. Life was miserable for a couple of years and we aren't the type of people who complain. There were a small handful that actually appreciated the work Nick and myself put in and complimented us, but that was few and far between. If it wasn't for those customers, we would have probably left the game a while ago. We just ask people to treat us how they would like to be treated.

You guys all want Genuine Volvo Parts, but unfortunately there is no magic button to make them appear overnight. It takes months upon months of compiling spreadsheets with Sku's, product ID's, taking images, HTML for the website, List Prices, Linking them to vehicles, finding weights for the products, then keeping up with the price changes Volvo makes every 30 days or so (and while we are feverishly trying to get this done everyone wants their products shipped out the same day and delivered tomorrow!)

The invitation is open for anyone on this board to come down on a Monday or Tuesday and just experience first hand what our operations entail. Maybe you will get a better understanding of what is required from us.

    WEB 2.0

To me when I think of Web 2.0, it is the new generation of web design. Not only are the web pages a little more crisp and concise, but websites are beginning to integrate the social media and social networking aspect of the web. We have a blog, we network on Facebook and Myspace, we not only have images of our products, we will now begin to have videos on You Tube. Web 2.0 establishes inter-human connection, because after all, most of us are all humans. Here is the latest from our graphic designer on our Web 2.0 which has been 2 months in the works http://www.fcpgroton.com/content/newfront.php

A more technical description is found here

  14. Hello, when I try to select part for my 2000 v70R I get nothing. Sometimes I don't even get the option for a 2000 R, only 2004-07 R. I think you still need some tweaking to the website...

Site, def needs some tweaking! We are working on it. Let us know what drop-downs need to be consolidated/tweaking.

We started on a few models, but it's an extremely arduous task. We changed the S80 and XC90 so far.

    Thanks for the input

  15. Oh I hear you... I just got a 70R bumper for a steal at DW and I'm goin back for more! hahhahaaaaaaa

But, still... good to see FCP make the effort here. I'm sure DW's popularity also plays a part in this change in ethos

We just learned of Darryl Waltrip Volvo when we signed up on VS. Frankly, the markup on Genuine Volvo Parts is so marginal, it would not keep a company like ours in business. It is much more of a hassle to source Genuine Volvo Parts. We do it as a courtesy for our Volvo owners- we do not do it for BMW, Audi, VW, Mercedes, Porsche or Jag.

There was never a change in ethos of our company. Same people, same principles. We just experienced growing pains and we didn't have enough time to devote to other areas.

  16. Now I'm up for another PCV/T-belt/Radiator for my newly acquired T5M, can't wait for the discount for supporting member deal! I hope I can combine that with the on-line $10 discount I got for answering a survey the other day, lol.

    OrleeC

Keep in mind, we do have to stay in business. I will throw it out there- what is a REASONABLE VS Discount we can offer? What are the requirements? Tiered?

  17. Would getting wastegate actuators for various turbochargers i.e. 13g, 15g, 16t, 18t, 19t be out of the question? Just curious, I know the 16T straight flange actuator runs about 300 from the dealer and I'm sure a few people wouldn't mind upgrading to a stronger wastegate actuator....who knows how efficient they are w/ 100K plus miles which most of us have....

Sorry for the delay. I will have Nick look into this. We typically leave the upgrades or mods to a IPD.

  18. Welcome to VS!

are you able to check on the manufacturer of a given part easily if someone were to call you and ask? If i had any question thats what i would do, dont know why those who are complaining about not knowing the manufacturer dont just do that

    LOL Very good point.

yes, you can always call us or email me scottd@fcpgroton.com

  19. Usually I just use a friend's 20% discount at the local dealer for parts, but I actually placed my first order with you guys a couple of weeks ago for a new heater core. The Nissens unit I bought was HALF the price of what DW was charging and OEM (not aftermarket) did the trick for me.

While I have noticed that the heat doesn't get as blazing as it did before with the 10 year old original heater core, at least it's not leaking any more.

Order was shipped fast and everything was reasonably priced. Thanks again!

Appreciate the kind words. As you can see, posting on a Saturday morning and all weekend long hopefully shows you all that this business to us is much more than a profit, its who we are. Its tough when you hear the negative, but the positive makes it all worthwhile. :D

  20. I believe if you take advice you would be heading in the right direction. If you send out test parts from different manufactuers as stated earlier in the thread. Then we reviewed them and gave it a yay or ney that would help, if their are repeated problems than dont sell from that manufactueur, as I have learned that is anything assembled in china last no more than three months tops. The axle problems were due to the supplier you were selling that had the spline problems that why they were popping out. Truth be told I would not even buy a newer Volvo as my friends who have Volvos has stated because Ford turn them into a unreliable Company i am with you on the newer cross reference issue. My brother owns a S60R and the part longevity is not their anymore plus they due this thing were they change most of the parts mid through the model year, so it is a pita making sure you got the right one for almost every year when before it was for a couple year run for vin cutoff. He will be getting rid of it when the warranty runs out. If Ford gets rid of Volvo in the recession I fear they will be at the same spot Saab is right now, so really I dont know how much better parts businesses will be doing anyway, auto industry is one of the hardest hit and most shakiest but if you are loyal to your customers and sell reliable aftermarket parts as well as oem its a win-win. My friend owned a local parts chain and got out before the walls came tumbling down luckily. My advice too you is take cues from your customers and when they say a part is junk dont sell that manufactuer instead of just resending another one because no one wants too do the job twice especially aftermarket spring seats etc where time is of the essence. I also remember when I bought the Purple upper torque Rod bushing for my 96 850 it was the best one. A couple months later I went to buy it again for my other Volvo and it was pictured on your site but you sent me a different design black one which was junk. When I questioned that i did not recieve what was pictured you said you switched suppliers and would send another one, which was the black one the design mold was completely uneven and flawed from that supplier. I have not had any problems with the purple one. I had a whole slew with black one and i ended up going to dealer. Its problems like that which really made me mad. As stated earlier I like to know manufactuer and what I am recieving is the same as in the picture and time and time again it was never as stated. When i went to eeuroparts in the interim, I always got the brand name and part as pictured. Peace

Thank you for your input. I will address all of your matters in our next company meeting and form a plan of action towards a resolve.
