One of my best friends has quickjacks and I've borrowed them to do some work on my car.

They're super simple and sturdy to use. Never felt like the car could move at all.

That seems to be the general sentiment about them. I don't know if I could personally ever get over the mental block that they look like they would tip over. 😬

any of those friends volvo friends? they lift their volvos from the pinch welds?

Gabe those are nice jack stands - i have seen those around before and know of lots of great comments about them. Love your bmw!

With the rubber blocks I wouldn't be as worried about it (probably still wouldn't though). You can actually see in the one picture my BMW has reinforcements around the pinch weld that help support it. But I would be so hesitant to lift or support the 850 from the pinch welds.

  3. For what it's worth, I got these instead of the quick jack:

You can see how much height is left on the jack stand. It says they have a full height of 24". They are extremely sturdy. I was under the car wrestling the exhaust and transmission and never felt the car wiggle. They're fantastic.

Archived threads come up for me when I search the site like Greg described. Actually just looked thru a few from 2007/8 yesterday

Never had good luck using the forum search feature and I’m not surprised that the site has slipped in terms of SEO/google results

It does for me, too. I guess I was thinking more in terms of the 99.9% of people that don't do google searches that way and would thought that VS not coming up in searches isn't helping the forum stay alive.

I also don't know how the results are generated on a search and why some sites come up and others don't. But it's weird. Volvospeed used to always come up first when I would search volvo related things. Now it doesn't at all.

  5. Are archived topics not searchable on VS? Now that I have the 850 and have been doing more 850 related google searches, Volvospeed rarely ever comes up. When I search on the site, the only hits are typically in the off-topic thread and is unrelated.

For exampled, today I was trying to confirm the wires needed for splicing in a trailer harness. VS never came up on google searches. And when I search the forum, nothing comes up. But I'm pretty confident that someone has talked about a trailer harness on here before.

Doesn't make sense when the forum is dying and google searches don't bring you here.

If you can't find someone, be careful when selecting options if you do go ahead and buy a report. I just bought a report the other day, and I didn't notice it defaults to three reports for $99, which I unwittingly purchased. Then I had to explain, wait for a partial refund, etc etc.

I already caught that. Sneaky of them.

So is anyone on here having a kid or has had one in the last 3 months?

We are cleaning out some of the boys things now that they are 3 1/2 and 2 and I found the set of red Volvo moccasins. they are brand new in the box. perfect for an upcoming winter to keep those baby feet warm

Volvo moccasins? Would they be appropriate for say...June 2018?

Honestly in that price range, just go to a couple of local bike shops and see what they have to offer. Any of the major brands Like Trek, Specialized,Giant etc will have almost identical offerings. I would look to see if there are any sales on last years models as well. Try a couple out too, see how they fit and feel.

After looking maybe post a couple models you are looking at and I can offer some suggestions. Or just text me from the shop..

Fairdale has a couple of "Commuter" type bikes that are nice too. Emma has one and it is a good bike for it intended use.

The Trek FX 7.2 was one I looked at yesterday. It was nice. But I know this is the real entry level price, so you're right, they're probably all a horse a piece at this price. I'm also thinking of getting a used one for a few hundred that might be a few years old, but a "nicer" model.

  9. Dear bikers,

I gave away my old Trek bike that I've had since I was in middle school and am now looking for a replacement. I want a hybrid. I'll be biking around town and more frequently on the multi-use trail behind our apartment. I would like to start taking longer rides eventually (10-15 miles). I'm not looking to spend above $500.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks.

Yeah there are a few RHD Jeeps mainly Cherokees and the occasional RHD Legacy wagon.

A new RHD Jeep pulled into my work a few months back and I asked the lady about it. She did indeed work for USPS and said that Jeep is one of the few companies that still make them. They need a minimum order of, IIRC, four to make them. They have to order them specially, as in USPS doesn't buy them for the mail carriers, but in order to be able to order one she had to prove she worked for USPS. And then when she's not delivering mail, she daily's it.
