  1. Just a heads up, replacement poly endlink bushings from IPD are like $6. I have a set sitting in a bag for when I put my IPD bar on the 00 R.
  2. Awesome work Jason!! Thanks for posting so many pictures and detailed info on all the work you're doing. I'm really happy you were able to find fittings for the fuel lines too!
  3. Yeah the solution Matt found was totally unnecessary. You can buy the appropriate drop-in bushings, no modifications needed, with the info in this thread: http://v70r.com/forums/topic/37473-p80-awd-rear-suspension-bushings/
  4. Mike, I did a DIY double-din install your kids would find useful. http://volvospeed.com/install_performance_parts_how_tos/misc_other_volvo_guides/double-din-radio_install.html Anything from Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, etc would be a good option. However, I haven't kept up with specific models/lines and the features they offer, so have your kids figure out which features they need, and which ones they want, then use those criteria to filter down on Crutchfield. Run the internal amp in the new head unit. It's a much better option than the stock amp, the evolution in technology is worth it! Also, crutchfield will say that a double-din won't fit because you have to modify the factory radio cavity in the dash to secure the new radio. I tried to debate with them about that for a while, but they won't update their site.
  5. You didn't want that fender the inside was kind of mess. I'm excited to see what I can do with the new one too! I definitely won't! Pics have been fixed in the original post (thanks Photobucket, you bunch of assholes) and I'll be updating the thread a little later this weekend.
  6. Got the front subframe pulled out last night, along with the last of the interior and any miscellaneous parts I wanted to keep: Filled it up with all the scrap we had at our shop to get it ready for it's final trip: Truck was rolling a little heavy on the way there... And lastly, said goodbye:
  7. As long as you're not using a MLS head gasket, you don't need to machine the block and head. If you are using a MLS gasket, get everything machined or you'll be repeating the job. Shiny isn't critical for a proper seal on the new gasket. Make sure there aren't any pieces of old gasket left behind and the new gasket will seal. I'd use a rubber scraper blade to remove as much as you can, then use a chemical gasket remover. Lastly, I'd spray the surface with brake parts cleaner to remove any residue and leave the aluminum fairly clean.
  8. Mustang seems really well sorted Zeus, love the color too! At that power level, do you have any wheel hop/rear subframe movement issues like I've heard about with the 5.0s? What did you end up doing to the C70? Sell it, part it out, etc? That was a cool looking car
  9. Replace the fuel lines with 5/16" nylon. I did this on my 99 and was able to reuse the stock fittings. It's easy, takes maybe an hour, and costs about $40. I have pictures I can share for a step by step guide, I just can't access them from my phone at the moment.
  10. Check which style 98 driveshaft you have. The early 98 models use a different style CV that will not interchange with the late 98/99/00 style CVs. The early 98 cars use a different VC too, pics are in Hussein's thread on SS. You can download a free plugin for Chrome browser that will still display embedded photobucket images. The late 98/99 driveshafts are the same. The 00 driveshaft has a different (larger) carrier bearing. Officially, this means you can't interchange them. It's very easy to do in practice though. I have pics in my 99 R thread on the different mounting bolt locations for the 99/00 carrier bearing. The late 98/99 and 00 driveshafts are the same length, so they can be swapped freely.
  11. I left the jackstands on the pinch weld where the factory jacks attach. There's an arrow embossed into the chassis that indicates the correct position.
  12. Obviously, a little late on the reply here but there is the annual Euro Meet each June in Ithaca that is organized by the Central NY chapter of VCOA - there is typically a huge Volvo turnout. I didn't make it this year because my friend was getting married in CT the same weekend. A meet in the Syracuse area would certainly be an option. I'll have to see when people would be interested and see if we can get something together. In other news, I've been working on taking this car apart, and it's been a slow process because I haven't really had a ton of time to dedicate to it. As of now, all the aftermarket stereo and all the associated wiring, trailer hitch/wiring, AEM gauges/A-pillar pod, OMP strut bar, XC roof rails/rain strips, Rally Armor mud flaps, and all but the driver's door panel have been removed. Basically, I've been removing as much as I can while leaving it driveable. Most of this stuff is still piled in the car because I'm pretty much out of space to store parts in my apartment. As a result, I'm currently working on making some more space before taking anything else off the car, which will resume this weekend. I'll post some pics later....
  13. Crap, sorry guys. Thought I replied to everyone a while ago, but it appears I didn't. Oops..... Thanks Dan, appreciate the kind words! Justin, don't you live near Carlise? I wasn't in that part of PA on my way back from Denver, but I was at Carlisle later that week. I realize I'm a day late and a dollar short here, but if you're ever back up here let me know and we can get together! Dan, where in NY do you live?
  14. Interesting concept. I'll be very curious to see how it functions and sounds!
  15. Sign me up for one of those boards if you produce a run of them!!
  16. This one? still pinned at the top of the racing subforum
  17. Yeah I did the trip on studded snows. No better tires available for 90* sunny weather You're dead on with the bumper, the whole front end is pretty sandblasted from winters in Colorado. There are a few other minor cosmetic bits that need some attention, but overall the body is in good shape and I LOVE the color too. Thanks for the info on the mounts, I'll use the 99 mount for sure. I know we've since talked about all this, but in case anyone else is wondering, the motor will get swapped from my 99 because I'm familiar with the maintenance history and such, so I'll stay with what I know. Agreed, and those do look killer, but I'm going to ditch the stock mudflaps for the Rally Armor urethane ones I have on the 99 R. Thanks Timo! That's kinda the goal, take 2 cars, and make 1 cool project out of them. It'd be fun to catch up this summer, shoot me a text sometime and we can figure plans out! Thanks! I'm enjoying your R project too. I still remember your old 850 project from back in the day. That was a cool machine, and your R is right there too!
  18. Sounds like the ticket should get thrown right out based on the incorrect vehicle info. Good luck!
  19. Agreed! I'll keep you posted when the motor/M66 swap happens. Thanks Mark! Yeah didn't want the pegs, the satellites will do until I put the STI/BBS wheels on it. It definitely took some coordination with the seller to get the timing right, but he was easy to deal with and even went to the DMV and got me a temporary registration/plate to drive it back to NY on. Went to the local Cars and Caffeine meet Sunday morning, and one of the local photographers snagged this shot of me rolling into the show. 18766808_1361413430607064_4738425938921360188_o by Andy Buresh, on Flickr Studded snow tires sure got me some funny looks as I was cruising through the crowd
  20. Here's the story behind my new-to-me 2000 V70 R. Its gonna be a long post, and picture heavy too! This thread will serve as a continuation of sorts of my 1999 V70 R build, which can be read here: The conclusion to that thread will come later this summer, as I will be pulling all the modifications of my 99 R, and transferring them to the 00 R. Now, onto the details of my new Venetian Red 00 R! My friend sent me the for sale ad on Facebook: Here's a couple of the photos from the listing: After spending a few weeks negotiating with the seller, I bought a one way flight to Denver, packed some tools in my bag (I did, however, forgot to pack underwear ) and went to visit some friends before picking up a car and driving it 1900 miles across the country back to New York!!! I landed in Denver Friday evening (May 12) in the early evening. While there, I got to check out the murals of the Denver Airport, and see all the other bits that are the basis for a long list of conspiracy theories. Here's how it sat when I picked it up from the seller at a shopping center a short walk from my friends apartment. Shortly after taking delivery of my R, I went on a hike in up Golden with my friends. The views were stunning to say the least. After lots of fun touring around the Denver area on Saturday, I packed my stuff into the car and started driving back to NY on Sunday morning (May 14th) with plans to stop at my friend's place in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Here are some photos from the drive Sunday. Nebraska was wide open, flat, and very easy to drive through: Drove through miles of turbines in Iowa (despite the picture being of a singular turbine). There's a Don Quixote joke here somewhere.... Cruising towards Cedar Falls, Iowa and got to watch the sun set Sunday's drive was about 800 miles, which took about 12 hours, and the drive home was off to a great, relatively easy start. Here's how my car sat outside my buddy's place in Iowa on Monday morning When I left Iowa Monday morning, my destination was headed to Anthony's (@apeacock) house near Buffalo, NY. Monday held about 850 miles of driving, which was about 13 hours of driving. Stopped for gas in PA. I had a hard time with card reader on the pumps though.... Made it to Anthony's around 10pm, took him for a quick test drive, and then face-planted into the extremely comfortable bed in his guest room. Monday morning before I left his house, Anthony took this photo of our wagons together Made good time on my way back to Troy on Tuesday morning - at this point, 300 miles seemed like a short drive to me I got to enjoy some really nice views in the mountains in western NY: Here's how the odometer when I made it home: The entire trip was 1960 miles, and I managed an average of 26.8 mpg at an average speed of 70 mph. All of this was calculated from the trip computer. And here's how my two wagons sat when I got the office on Tuesday at noon: Earlier tonight I got it registered in NY, so now the build can begin. Stay tuned, this should be a fun project and I'm very excited to get working on it
  21. I can't wait. Oh, and I snagged a sign this year, gotta keep the collection going! Likewise, great to see you too Melvin! That could work, maybe somewhere in the ADKs?
  22. Kevin has them on his 850. I drove his car Sunday and it shifted extremely well. He also did new cables and Snabb shifter base bushings too.
  23. Thanks, and Carlisle next year sounds good to me. We have many beers to drink and some signs that need relocation Thanks Timo. Unfortunately I can't make it to Ithaca, I'll be in Connecticut for my buddy's wedding. I'd like to think I'll get a lot of the work done by then, but it'll probably be later in the summer
  24. I'll keep you posted on a date for the swap! It was good to see you this weekend Hussein. Obviously, I didn't bring the new wagon to Carlisle. Thanks Brandon! Thanks Mikey - it was great seeing you this weekend! Thanks Greg, the drive was fun, I enjoyed seeing the country. I wish I had a little bit more time to stop and sight see along the way, but such is life. Thanks Lucas. I crossed 190,000 miles on the drive back from Colorado. Thank you, and I agree that Saffron and Lazer are both very sharp colors. Sorry for the slow replies guys, it was a crazy week and I didn't have any free time to sit down in front of my computer. Got a really good photo of me with my 99 R at Carlisle yesterday. It was a fun weekend and felt good to be driving this car again - it's much more engaging to drive than the Venetian at the moment. Photo credit goes to Melvin ( @aldebaran) Thanks again Melvin!
