Nice, have had nothing but good experiences with the tuning with Aaron as well. I plan to get to around 18psi with my k24 hopefully.
  2. I'll be doing RAGBRAI this year with my buddies it would be cool to ride with ya Mike!
  3. Never regret watching an awesome show! Favorite episode was when they were camping in the office and ate a bag of shrooms
  4. Because Volvo Because Workaholics
  5. WOW this is amazing work. Wish I had the space and knowledge to do this, I'd paint my wagon in a heartbeat. Great work! Look forward to seeing it completed!
  6. Got it. Something I wish I could keep when I swapped mine.
  7. Nice! Always good to have friends to help push things along. Totally blanking here but CC?
  8. You live up to your name. Sweet tools bro.
  9. update: oil level still the same as it was two weeks ago
  10. Update: This was an amazing time. Thanks again Gabe and Katherine for your hospitality to the MWC crew, and especially for the help and use of the tools for pulling my engine again... I'll say I'm getting pretty good at it. Not that I'll want to do it again anytime soon, I'd kinda just like to drive it And Jay, Art, Justus, Smith, Aaron, and Tom (I guess) for helping as well on everything Pics were scarce... but beer/liquor/food was not! Before During Back In 7 Volvo's, One Driveway (and garage) And the RMS was definitely leaking but the clutch cover (?) and the flywheel were remarkably clean, I am guessing that was the case because it just slung the oil everywhere. There was a tiny bubble/blemish on the seal itself along with a few blemishes, probably from the old seal I originally removed, on the crank surface where you insert the seal. So I cleaned it up really well and then we put some grease and black RTV sealant on it and stuffed it in there. and crossed my fingers. I live approximately 119 miles from Gabe's house and so when I stopped to get fuel on the way home I was roughly 100 miles outside of Milwaukee and I was very anxious to check the oil (I checked it and made a mental note of the level before leaving Gabe's). As I was filling up I popped the hood and checked the dipstick... SAME AMOUNT OF OIL AS WHEN I LEFT I jumped up and down in the gas station parking lot shouting WOOOHOOO!!! while onlookers looked at me like "who the fuck is this guy" I didn't hammer on it much on the way home as I want the seal to set and really just settle in there. I will be doing the PCV and new IC hoses and a boatload of maintenance crap in the coming months so the seal will hold when I turn up the bewst
  11. WOW VVT covers I can haz? Also, did you get the PCV box to mount and fit finally? Why such a hard time? Figured you could just get the correct oil trap for the long block and it would fit...
  12. Holy shit. How did you rub through one? Another thing for me to be paranoid about Volvo hillbillies I tell you but ingenious nonetheless That's fine with me the more the merrier. Plus, I've never met you, and I miss Stu. It would be a great impromptu meet. Almost a better turnout than meets that are scheduled half a year in advance Even with the shit ton of oil leaking the torque is so noticeable it's ridiculous. Yessir it is. Let me know when we are swapping yours
  13. Yea Mike the 2.4L RN was hard to turn down seeing as my current motor stock 2.3L was at 235,000mi even though running very well still. Finn, it really sucked realizing it after only the first 200miles on the trip back. Oh well, kept it topped off and stopped every 100miles to make sure all was kosher. Engine pull is on the 18th so I won't make the same mistake again with that damn seal you should come up, it's gonna be another shenanigan filled few days. Just read through it and realized how many pictures I uploaded.
  14. Oh she is. We're taking it easy until the motor comes out again then she will be tearing up the streets of Naperville RMS is the only thing that went wrong, honestly for a complete manual/rn/turbo swap in 1.5 days... Pretty good if you ask me Truth, but being able to do this from time to time means that we really haven't in all retrospect You owe me a new RMS.
  15. Thanks Andy! I didn't even realize you were this close, would have been great to see you. This won't be my last road trip out there so next time I'll send you a message and we'll take a trip up there. Thanks Matt! As Jay said, the water pipe was removed for a different one off of one of the engines in the garage. I was curious, do you happen to have the part number for the pipe itself off of an R motor to fit a k24? I literally have been searching for a half hour and have come up with nothing. DO IT again, DO IT you won't regret it!
  16. Getting everything finished up! [/url ] Troubleshooting a bit at 12:30pm So we started her up finally at about 12:30pm. Tom had a two hour drive home and had to work at 8am the next day, so even though it was running with what seemed to be a bit of a vacuum leak, Thomas departed around 1:00am. Bye Tom! Brandon ended up hanging out and finishing all the stuff with me, like putting the hood back on and other miscellaneous stuff, we also cleaned up the shop. Took her for a test drive and DAMN. That was all I could say the whole drive, the wagon has new life and pulls like a freight train! Brandon was there till 3am with me and had a three hour drive back to Jersey for work the next day at 700am. He left after we cleaned up the shop and my Dad and I slept in the back of the wagons (I love sleeping in the back of this thing) for 3 hours and departed at 6am the next day. We drove the first 200 miles of the trip back and my pops noticed from behind me that there was a lot of oil coming off the car. We stopped to check it out and oil was literally dripping from everywhere, in that stretch, I had lost close to 2 quarts… later we found out when we got home that it was the RMS. During the journey home we stopped every 100 miles to keep it topped off and never went below the halfway line on the dipstick, there was nothing else we could do at that point, so keeping it topped off was the best option and we got home at 11:00 almost on the dot. Here are some photos my pops took as he was trying to drive the other wagon Fun fact, remember the Coral V70 AWD I mentioned wayyyyy up there? Well, we went to finish it up Saturday night and put the driveshaft in. Started it up with the coolant cap off, Buckingham fountain exploded out of the coolant reservoir… the headgasket was bad. Thomas had brought the 2000VR that he swapped the LPT engine into a few months earlier because Brandon was going to purchase it at some point. Brandon told my Dad and I to take the V70R XC home with us since the Coral was not drivable. WHAT A GUY! :D So the plan is to have round 2, and this time Massachusetts will be coming to Illinois, and hopefully it will be just a lot of relaxing and drinking beer Well, that’s all for now, this will serve as my build thread as well so I hope it doesn’t get deleted/archived/un-findable like my last one. And once again, I cannot say thank you enough to Brandon, Tom, Jay and my Dad for helping me with the arduous task and making such a great memory of this legendary weekend!
  17. Well, here goes, this is a very late upload so I hope I haven't forgotten anything or duplicated too many of the photos, either way it should be a fun way for you guys to kill 5-10 minutes in your days tomorrow Enjoy. This is going to be a story/build thread, as my previous thread was deleted or archived with the updates/backups to the website. Three years ago I bought a 1997 850R from Brandon (Volvoskiah) from the NEC. The car was owned by one owner it’s whole life from 14,000 to 198,000 with immaculate records and unbelievable maintenance by a Volvo dealer out in Massachusetts. I flew out on about a weeks’ notice because I knew this wagon would not last, and this had always been the car I had wanted since I got bit by the Volvo bug in 2009! Fast forward three years and two months ago. I had bought a 98 V70 AWD of the Coral variety with a blown motor about a year ago from a couple in Connecticut and had it towed to Brandon and Tom’s shop in Holyoke. They had a 2000R motor that they were going to throw in it when they had some time. This summer everything got put into the Coral and I was going to go pick it up. We started discussing my 855R and how I had been wanting to manual swap it for a while now. We then got the bright idea to RN/M56H swap it since my motor had 235,000 on it. Seeing as I had to go pick up the Coral anyways…. Why not drive the R up and swap it at the same time! Many parts were bought and plans were set. Time for pictures and shenanigans! We left Friday, my Dad came with to drive the Coral back as I would be driving the R back. He also was the dedicated camera guy all weekend long, so 99% of these photos are credit to him, as my hands were full of grease for three straight days A member and good friend also came with to stretch his S70’s legs before his trip to Vegas, Jay (Modman), and the project really could not have been finished without him. 3am! Meeting Jay at the rest stop. Jay! Creepin’ Last gas station stop being automagic for the rest of its’ life. My pops drove for a while and I took the liberty to take some scenery and rolling pictures. Mostly through New York and slightly into Massachusetts. Enjoy. Okay so, obviously I am not a professional photographer so I feel some turned out decent, but I uploaded all of them just cause of simplicity Rolling shots of Jay’s car, I hope at least one turned out, you need one in your sig my friend Award for most ugly body-kit Does anyone smell Salmon? What a cool Mercury. Lee, this is for you The guy was really cool and we talked while driving and said he liked the wagon Father Klopcic! Arrived in Holyoke! Brandon and Dillon! Brandon’s’ family’s chariots Mike this is for you Friday night we brought all the parts and the wagon to the shop in Holyoke. Everything was loaded into the garage and we went and rested up till our 8am wake-up time! Day 1: Saturday Removal of hood, so as to save my head from hitting it all the time Tearing into it. Goodbye 234,000 2.3L, you have been great to me, stay alive in Brandon’s T5M Jay, Brandon and I discussing RN swaps and how much Jay realizes he needs an RN motor Well help beautiful! Not the car, I’m talking about you Tom Tom towed the XC with his newly swapped R, which is awesome by the way. He had stripped the entire engine except for the engine mounts and the sub frame so it was an easy pull on this one. Started to strip the ’01 motor of its accessory stuff, and replacing it with my 97 stuff. I promise I did stuff while they were pulling off the other stuff. This is the piece that messed up on us 50 miles into the drive home. RMS is a moody oh yeah!. New RMS will be going in on the 18th of October. But we did replace it with a new unit and I think it may have folded in on itself but I will post an update on this come the time the engine comes out just a month after it got put in! So many Volvo’s! So this concluded Saturday, it was incredibly hot all day and it started to rain around 9pm so we headed back and ate a delicious dinner with chili as the main dish, which was absolutely amazing, made by Brandon’s mother. We also got to sit and talk about the day and the plan of action for tomorrow, seeing as we needed to get it done! Off to bed and onto 8am tomorrow morning for the final stretch! Day 2: Sunday Didn’t get any pictures of pulling the old out of my wagon cause my Dad was going to get breakfast for errbody. But Tom and I manhandled it like champs and got it out. Here is how the 2.4L sat when we got the trans mated up and everything ready for the accessories to go on! Here is an issue we ran into. This I'm dumb exhaust stud broke in the head as we were pulling off the old exhaust manifold. My Dad worked on it for about 4 hours on Sunday trying everything we could, but to no avail, so when we put the exhaust gaskets on we slathered the entire backside with an exhaust manifold gasket sealant, so far it has held up great and no leaks. I’ll eventually get a new head in the future I’m sure so that’ll solve that problem when I swap it, but it’s working great right now Jay taking a well-deserved break, he put pretty much all the accessory brackets and associated parts on the new motor… what a guy! Brandon grabbing a seat in the bay Getting ready to go in! Yay kneeling in the bay. Now I know everyone has seen an engine being lifted into a Volvo before, but damn this took precision and lots of patience with having to have the door open, to closing it, to opening it part of the way, to closing it again! But she’s in. This is my favorite picture of the entire weekend. We still had everything to button up but it was in and was such a feeling of accomplishment. This really captures what a great bunch of guys you all are. I cannot thank you enough for everything you did to help all weekend, you are all truly great friends After that Jay had to leave due to work the next day at 3pm so we had to say goodbye and he started the 14 hour journey home!
  18. Ooooo Andy those are awesome!!
