I wouldn't call the decision to go to war "shrill". Shrill is taking a news story, leaked by a UN organization just before the election (gee, no political agenda there) and running with it as absolute fact. Shrill is Al Gore on the campaign trail (has anyone seen him lately, thank God he wasn't elected). Shrill is a taking a "smoking gun" news story that was received on a fax and running it before checking it out just because you like the way it portrays a candidate in a bad light. Like it or not, the decision to go to war in Iraq was the culmination of years of intelligence (some of it bad), negotiations, and ignored sanctions, not a knee-jerk reaction to an anti US story leaked by the UN. As for the importance in this story, BIG DEAL. With the amount of munitions that existed in Iraq, it should not be a surprise that some of it ended up in the hands in insurgents. To me the story is who leaked it, and the way the different candidates reacted to it. Kerry jumped right on the bandwagon and blamed Bush, while, in effect, he was calling our armed forces incompetent in a time of war. Sounds awfully familiar to me. (Vietnam) It has reinforced my belief in who I want to have guiding this country for the next four years. jwm

This is no more John Kerry's econmic policy than is anything you would read at georgebush.com. They are both trying to win votes. Who is John Kerry? What does he stand for? From what I see, he doesn't even know. At least Clinton could get a crowd excited. Kerry even bores the media. Bring back Bill. jwm

Those of us old enough to remember the Vietnam War and what John Kerry did after returning from the war will never consider voting for him. Those who don't can get some insight at www.wintersoldier.com. I don't deny him the right to say what he said, the timing of it made it treason, after all, there were many of our friends over there still fighting and he was giving comfort to the enemy. The swift boat vets can have their say, but to me, the interesting thing is that Mr. Kerry is attempting to squash attempts to re-publish the book he wrote in 1971, title "The New Soldier". Think about it, what doesn't he want you to read? Those of us who own businesses in NC (or anywhere) should be wary of any ticket with John Edwards on it. Insurance rates in this state, particularly in the medical field, have gotten so high that many doctors will not practice here. Mr. Edwards brags that he grew up poor in a mill town before going off to school and becoming a millionaire trial lawyer at the expense of doctors and businessmen. Guess what, I grew up poor as well, probably in worse conditions than Mr. Edwards, but I have made it, not by preying on others, but by helping others. I am one of the ones that Mr. Edwards targets. Put those 2 together and there is only one choice for me... Bush/Cheney '04.
