  1. You can rent / borrow a handgun in the hood. There's a whole network within the gangs. It's actually pretty difficult to pick up a gun on the black market in Chicago if you're not connected.

The reality Chris is that the killing spree in Chicago has slowed down this Summer vs. what it was last year.

Another reality is the number of hot days, have been less. And Chicago crime always picks up when the weather is nice. It was also nicer, earlier last year.

  2. Is it an AWB there? I thought all guns were banned.

Nope, the HG ban has been gone for a while. And actually, with the new CCW law that past, they pretty much abolished the mag limit pre-emption for cook (Chicago) county, and a couple other home rule counties. So, in terms of concealed carry, you don't have a large amount to worry about any more. But they do still have an AWB. They also abolished the CFP (Chicago Firearms Permit), it's about time, because if you live in Cook county, you had to have a CFP card and a FOID card, and for CCW you would need a CCL card as well. Absolutely ridiculous.

There have been some interesting developments in Chicago regarding guns.

But we all know, all those thug gang bangers will be getting their CCL's at 150 a pop + 16 hours of training. (Although, they only need 8 hours, if they took the hunters safety course... people hunting that is.) Chicago, and effectively, this state are doomed.

  3. Haha, I have been around. Been a very busy summer... which is good, I guess haha.

I can CCW now actually, in 33 states ;-) I'm not terribly concerned with Illinois. They are still dicking around with pretty much anything related to it, I think some of the politicians are under the impression that they can do something to stop it still.

  4. Just to add fuel to the fire, the New Yorker had an interesting take on how might we have reacted differently IF the Tsarnaev brothers had used "assault weapons" instead of pressure cooker bombs.

Maybe your problem is Mike that we haven't had enough Muslims pulling out AR-15s and shooting up large groups of people yet...in the US. Maybe that would get the change you're looking for. ;)

They were amatuers, thankgod. If they knew what they were doing, with bombs, they could have made a larger impact.

If they had guns, I wonder if some of the LEO presence would have shot them before things got too out of hand.

  5. The term "Gun Show Loophole" is misleading, as private firearm sellers are not required to perform background checks regardless of location—whether they are at a gun show, a flea market, their home, or anywhere else.

Presently, 18 states regulate private firearm sales at gun shows. Seven states require background checks on all gun sales at gun shows (California, Colorado (§12-26.1-101 and § 24-33.5-424, CRS), Rhode Island, Connecticut, Oregon, New York, and Illinois). Four states (Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania) require background checks on all handgun, but not long gun, purchasers at gun shows. Seven states require individuals to obtain a permit to purchase handguns that involves a background check (Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota). Certain counties in Florida require background checks on all private sales of handguns at gun shows.

Furthermore, ALL online sales are legally required to ship to a certified FFL who will conduct the background check before turning over the firearm to you.

Also, you can buy a SEMI automatic AK-47 without much trouble. This is NOT an assualt rifle however.

Go wherever you like and try to buy a real assault rifle with full auto and/or select fire. It's not the way you appear to think it is.

Actually, Illinois you technically MUST check for a FOID card for personal sales too, and retain all documents pertaining to the sale for up to 10 years.

  6. FWIW, I'm thinking about buying a .45 ACP from a co-worker... and please brace yourself......... but it will be a cash deal. :o

PS... I'd like to point out that after... 50+ pages in this thread... not a single person has voted yes, because it would save lives. lol

    OMG OMG OMG lol

What you buyin? I'm looking at another Springfield (XDS .45) or possibly a Kimber Solo 9mm

  7. I'm not a member, no.

But here in Illinois, there is a hold back time period for a handgun purchase, and rifle/shotgun: 3 days and 1 day respectively. Also, Illinois is a FOID state, so we do have background checks at minimum for when we get our FOID card. Also, and on top of everything else, in CCW states, you tend to get finger printed when you apply for a CCW permit.
