there is something to be done w/ the seat belt mounting

Scott (beachnut) recently did the swap and If I recall Correctly he had to rob a peice off his v70

    Correct. See this thread:

Get those brackets pictured in the last post and you're good to go ... everything else is direct fit. As mentioned previously, if you get 99+ seats then no side airbags for you :P

  2. Something's definitely not right, so hopefully Greg and others can get it squared away so all you people who should have gone with KW's can sleep comfortably in your twin sized beds located in mommy and daddy's house.

lol, and how many suspensions did you go through again Pras? ;)

  3. Don't most people run the wagon kit on the sedan and the sedan kit on the wagons for that very reason? Just curious because I'm looking at getting weitecs...if not then bilstiens/H&R's.

Yes, but in my case having the wagon rear springs on my 850 sedan makes my tires rub ... and I only have 7.5" wide Comets running 215/45. When the sedan rear springs are on the 850 sedan, the wheel gap is just as high as stock, if not more.

  4. I questioned the Sachs stuff right away upon receiving my Weitecs whenever it was ... like eight months ago maybe? The fact that I got a Sachs Super Touring strut/shock didn't really matter to me as much as the fact that I didn't expect it, so I can relate to the original poster's concerns.

I came from a stock setup, then to Bilsteins/H&R, then Weitec. I agree with the opinion that they are stiffer and better handling than stock, and less harsh and not as good at handling than the Bilsteins/H&R setup. However, I really think that the "stiffer than stock" feeling comes mainly from the springs, not the Sachs. Are they matched and balanced? They feel like it. Are they revalved and engineered? I seriously doubt it.

The thing that miffs me most about the Weitecs is the whole rear spring situation in the sedan application. The rear springs from the sedan kit raise the back end too high, and the rear springs from the wagon kit lower the back end too much, causing the front end to raise too high. I have tried them both ways on my 850 since I have two kits and drive both a sedan and a wagon. I'm not happy with either scenario and it looks like I'm going to have to purchase maybe some TME (or other) rear springs for the 850 until I find the optimal solution. And I ask myself why did I spend 'x' number of dollars on this kit and now have to spend 'y' more to get it right? Because of this, I give the Weitecs a thumbs down. The Sachs issue is just icing on a bad tasting cake.

  5. Andy ... I think you and I are on different wavelengths here B)

I've replaced all four axles on both my cars now. The last one was the passenger side on the V70, just pulled it last week ... and yes, coincidentially the seal was bad this time, but not the other three times. All four times I had fluid leak out when I pulled the axle out of the tranny, not much, just a little bit. What I'm saying is that in my experience that little bit of leaking when you pull the axle has nothing to do with the seal. The other three seals were just fine. They weren't leaking before and they don't leak now.

Yes, when I pulled the seal on V70 last week even more fluid came out, but since it took me another week to get a new seal and axle, it finally just stopped leaking after it leveled off in the tranny. I think a lot of whether the tranny will leak or not when you pull an axle has to do with how you have the car jacked up and the current fill level of the tranny. Maybe mine are overfilled?

Okay .. enough of this dead horse

  6. Leaking fluid is a sign of a bad seal. If you're leaking fluid, you need to replace it. MAKE SURE TO FILL THE SPRING SIDE WITH SILICONE PASTE!!!! it helps hold the spring in.

Well wait a sec, what I was trying to say is that it's okay for there to be some fluid leakage when you pull the axle out of tranny ... and when you pull the seal it will leak even more. That's with good seals.

  7. Darrell Waltrip Volvo in Franklin tn. has it for $25 and O'reilly has it for $15. Darrell Waltrip is 30 miles form my house and O'reilly is 13. Where do you think I'm going? Please tell me it is o.k. to buyt this from O'reilly. Also, when I get old axle and seal out will it leak ATF until I get new one in?

You will leak little fluid once you pull the axle, although some here have said they didn't. Both my cars did from both sides. Better to have your oil catch pan under there just in case. I have only replaced one seal, on the passenger side (like you). When I pulled that seal I lost a considerable amount of fluid ... maybe on the order of 1.5 to 2 quarts.
