  1. There's not too many forums who have such global attendance. I particularly enjoy seeing what the Euro Guys are up to. VS continues to make up a large percentage of my internet usage, has provided much entertainment, and saved me heaps of cash in easy repairs and mods. The Internet duschbaggery is unfortunate, but I can happily say it's far less prevalent here, than on most other forums. Props to the mods for that. I've been a VS member for 4+ years, and in that time made some friends, built a strong car, spent a fortune, and lost countless hours being entertained by the good peeps of this forum. I only wish the chat-room was a little more active.
  2. I haven't been getting mail notification of threads since this roll-back started. Dunno if it's just me, or if it's part of the upgrades.
  3. Why should income factor the percentage of tax paid!? And i clearly stipulated that both drivers gained the SAME benefit for driving on the road. It was teh SAME road, SAME distance. The beer story too, doesn't leave the wealthy guy with 4 beers to himself, NO, he, like everyone else in the story, only had 1. The SAME benefit. Why should someone who works his ass off in his own company and earns $20 pay 50% of that to the govt, when a bone-idle emoloyee on minimum wage and an incomplete timesheet who earns $10 not have to pay any of it for tax? (and don't bother quoting me on those figures, as they were just examples...)
  4. mmm, the point is being missed. Maybe we should drop it down a notch? 2 cars are driving on a highway, the same highway. Both cars weigh the same, use the same fuel etc. One car has leather seats, the other has cloth seats. So at the toll booth, the guy with leather seats is expected to pay $30 to drive on the road, and the guy with cloth seats $5. To drive the same distance, on the SAME road. That's what the tax system is doing to wealthy people. Now the guy with leather seats, decides, 'stuff this for a bad idea, i'm not driving on this road anymore, i'd rather drive on the roads in another country where they charge per number of wheels'. The $5 doesn't go far enough to maintain the road for the guy with cloth seats to drive on it anymore, so the whole system falls flat. A little extreme, but for the sake of simplifying it even more than beer ...
  5. It's those who most need the explaination that will never understand it ... :(
  6. Hehe, I have to laugh at American politics. I guess I don't comprehend it. Here, government take my tax money ... that's about it.
  7. Ah, media/publicity. Its all an act. Belive me, i make the stuff.
  8. Fantastic Offer guys! I'm not going to PM just yet. Will look for a candidate this week.
  9. not being familiar with US litigation, what is a punitive damage? THey've paid for cleanup, and 'compensation', which i assume is loss of income to people in the affected areas over the time period. $3billion. It's still alot of money. Personally, as an outside, i think it's too easy for lawyers to tackle big bussiness in the '1st world' as an easy way to generate income. The tanker spilt oil, yeah, it's bad, yeah, they've been punished, and paid out for it. Just because they have money, and someone who was affected by thier mistake thinks they want some of it, doesn't make it right that they have a claim to it. Trigger happy lawyers are bad for business.
  10. QUOTE (matt b @ May 29 2008, 04:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>LOL at the comment about Adam at Justin's house! No problem with gay marriage, some peeps on here alreay know my sister is gay and has a live-in GF. Why should she not have the same rights as the rest of us. Is she hot? j/k. It's always been funny for me how lesbians (gay women) are more socially acceptable than gay men.
  11. If culture bothers you, then surely all would? I mean US, Eurocentric, African, Eastern, Iraqi? Being anti-cultural is fairly broad, and that's not something you want to be stigmatised with! I hope. I also have a problem with the lunatics who take thier culture to the extreme, and rub it in your face. Africans that insit on bringing thier traditional what-nots to a place of work piss me off, Europeans that refuse to diversify and speak english when spoken to in english really annoy me. Iraqi's that blow up buildings don't belong on the planet imo. Gays who are out to convert staight men must stay the hell away from me. But these people aren't the majority. They're a select few that get all the attention and thus classify the whole group. That being said, If it weren't for the out-the closet types, the fearful majority who just want 'normal' life with thier partner would not get the benefit. I think the law protects those who are in same-sex relationships from the abuse and possibly voilence against them in certain comunities. It gives them a leg to stand on. If 2 guys walk down the street holding hands and some anti-gay activist feels the need to beat them to a pulp, at least it gives them the oppertunity to take rightful legal action againt such abuse. I dunno, that's my view. If they're not hurting or stealing from you, others, animals, any other entity, who are we to pass judgement?
  12. Extemists in any group are going to cause a problem. I think the 'culture' to which you refer are the extremists. Likewise, the anit-gay marriage lobbyists are religious extremists. (the ones that are going to cause the trouble that is) My beliefs are fairly broad. I let everyone have thier own ideas. I believe that by imposing one's own ideas onto others, one is infringing on thier rights. Once again, extreme liberalism doesn't work either. I live by the 10 commandments, and expect others to do the same. I don't see the harm in gay marriage, or in gays in general. (i'm all for hot lesbians ) The gay marriage law doesn't say that straight ppl have to now marry members of the same sex. It's only allowing those who chose that route to do what they want to do. Marriage is a financial contract in the eyes of the law thesedays anyway. It's like saying companies may now merge even if the CEO's are the same sex.
  13. Sure its blue and not an incorrect white balance on the camera? I'm calling bad camerawork. I've never seen a blue interior.
  14. Thanks for the feedback Chuck. I always feel like I miss out on the personal stuff because I can't come to meets. It's very frustrating to be a part of a community with whom I can't interact without the use of a keyboard, but still, many people, and mostly the mods have made my stay here a very pleasant one. The feedback from events is always the most important stuff for me to read. I can't know that certain vendors are not playing ball if i haven't been there. This kind of post makes VS the most worthwhile forum there is out there. I have bought many $$$ worth of mods for my car from IPD/VIVA/Joseph and others over the years. All my transactions have been painless considering logistics. Even direct purchases from members have been fantastic. That being said, all of those transactions were reccomended to me by this community. How is it possible then that a supplier could slate a community who are SO generous with information and advice, and punt vendors like they do. I think the biggest difference between VS and swedespeed and others i've tried is that VS is primarily a network of knowledge and friendships. I get no sence of community on other forums. I certainly wasn't welcomed in any way or form. Seems that all they're interested in is sales and forum discounts. Now who's cheap? (i might have this wrong as i'm 9hours away)
  15. Sorry to hear man! Re Damage to the car, trunk damage, even the underside is not structural. So long as the frame is still straight underneath, you should be okay. When I spun my car and hit a wall, i twisted the whole rear of the car, and they just repaired it (on a much older car, less value) So I'm sure it's not totaled. Suspension work, providing the mounting point aren't damaged is just bolt-on again. Same applies for all those sensors. Sump leaking, prolly just took a knock, and broke the gasket. Worst case is new sump, shouldn't set anyone back that much. Check engine mounts while you're in there tho.
