He has to do his exams first before he is allowed to continue with his engine

Very nice C30, especially with the new wheels. I'am pretty sure it won't take long before it's power exceeds 500whp though

Like gdog said: If the bores were too tight you would see scuffing/seize marks on the skirts "crack starting. all the pistons have marking on the inside of the head near where the oil passages are"........ Didn't notice this before but maybe this would explain everything? While the pistons have been pushed upwards in the cilinder the H-rods, beeing at an angle came in contact with the inner side of the skirt, pushing it against the cilinder wall and eventually made it crack..... Or are these markings too high up in the pistons for that? -

Also relevant: http://engineproblem.com.au/engine_problem/details/2.html Especially the sentence with the term "faulty piston design in it" -

If this is caused by detonation then there should be damage / heavilly pitting visible on the topsurface of the pistons. I'am not so sure about the detonation theory. It's a real shame this has happened though, but I can understand that you're done with it now. Curious how you are going to modify/ upgrade your future C30, cannot imagine you will leave it standard for long. -

Of course you're going to fix it A C30, what fun is that ....you can't even tune them yourself I would lift the head, drop the oil pan, get piston #3 out and decide from there. -

Why going stand alone? What would be so much better with it? -

I dis let them fire for a while at 30 Hz -

Yes, I agree. Bench testing and running them in a car are different situations after all. The best charges time om the bench doesn't necessarily have to be the best charge time while using them in the car. -

To avoid misunderstandings...:) These are charge times not dwell times. Dwell times have to calculated out off the charge times for each RPM to get the values for the dwell table. -

This is what I measured on the LS9 coils: http://www.meditekst.nl/cop_hussein.mov (14 volt - 3 ms) at 10 volt : 4.5 ms at 11 volt: 4 ms at 11.5 volt 3.7 ms at 12 volt: 3.5 ms at 12.5 volt : 3.3 ms at 13 volt: 3.2 ms at 14 volt 3.0 ms These charge times are shorter then the charge times of the LS2 coils -

That's odd ....at 13.5 volt I measured a charge time of 4.3 ms with these LS2 coil. 3.5 ms seems a bit low, they will not be fully charged. At 14 volt and 4 ms charge time: http://www.meditekst.nl/cop/LS2_14v_4ms.wmv Volt - ms 6 - 12,5 8 - 8,7 10 - 6.8 11 - 6 11,5 - 5,6 12 - 5,3 12,5 - 4,9 13 - 4,6 13,5 - 4,3 14 - 4 -
Just disable (set to zero) everything under "Diagnostic disables" in tunerpro except for "diagnostics replacement value: intake air temperature" set that one to 20 or something like that. The software AC mod works on every M4.4 by the way
-
That's about it. No hardware mods in the car or ECU needed. Considering things as baro or temp sensor, just turn them the off in the bin with tunerpro. What about the AC conversion are you unsure? Just don't do the hardware AC mod, only the AC software mod. Drop it in and go. You do have to do some reading in the tuner's rejoice topic though if you want to get more out if it.

Yes, you are probably right about that. The tachsignal on B21 comes from pin 8 of the 30309 chip. Does anyone know how this chip communicates with the 8051? The only connections it has with the 8051 are with ports: -P1.0 : CC0 -P1.3 : CC3 -P6.1 : RxD1 -P4.7 : CM7 -P7.5 : ADC 5 (rear lambda) -P7.7 ADC 7 (front lambda) -P3.0: RxD0 -P3.1: TxD0 -P3.2: INT0 Looking with my scoop I see constant activity on RxD0 and TxD0. Does it has a serial communication with the 8051 serial port 0? It also has a connection with INT0 (P3.2), when the IE1 flag is set RAM_17 ("Tachosignalzaehler'="tacho signal counter") is incremented by 1 in the bin at $8C9E (manual bin) . -

Yes, but since the tach signal the ECU generates can go ober 8000RPM, we suspect that it must be possible to let the ECU spit out RPMs higher then 8000 RPM in its loggingframes. -

The tach signal is generated by the microcontroller of the ECU. It seems bit odd therefore to feed back the tach signal to the microcontroller to measure it. -
It definitely needs a cleaning......first

Aha thanks! That must be it, don't know why I never thought of that, while I do have some experience in removing a dasboard; From to: But that's a whole other story. http://www.volvo850forum.nl/index.php/topic,63339.0.html (sorry for the hjjacking won't do it again, just couldn't resist ) -

I have that dash creaking too. I'am trying to find where it comes from for over a year now. Still couldn't find what's causing it. Didn't know that it's a common complaint. It sounds like it's coming from somewhere in the left corner. -
