just out of curiosity, what do you mean, "from the get-go"? From before Israel was a state that solution has been proposed and rejected! The Peel Commission report of 1937 envisioned a partition of the British Mandate of Palestine area into three sections: Arab, Jewish, and a small continued Mandate area (effectively under international control), containing Jerusalem. The Arab leadership rejected the plan, while the Jewish leadership, while not accepting it, wished to use it as a basis for further negotiation. The next major proposal to suggest a partition was the 1947 UN Partition plan for the division of Palestine. It also proposed a three-way division, again with Jerusalem held separately, under international control. It too was rejected by the leadership of Arab nations and the Palestinian leadership at the time, although this plan was accepted by the Jewish inhabitants.

I actually replied before you added the pm comment of course not, but that's not my argument. my point is that while is sucks that religion has become a tool of extremists (it's even happened in this country), the one isolated incident I was referring to was an event that hasn't been repeated (and hadn't happened before that), while attacks on civilians from the other side are far more numerous. that's just a plain fact, even without assigning a moral judgement to it.

i'll give you the one incident, but you know what I meant. the frequency is my point.

while the premise of that argument is true (that religion is a motivator for extreme politics) keep in mind that no matter how right wing the Israeli settler, they will never be going into a crowded market and blowing themselves up. the difference is the approach towards the value of a human life.
