7 VII 7
I am getting new information on it and my supervisor said for me to be 100% sure because if I apply I will be picked because what I do for the Navy and how that will transition down perfectly. We would only move for 2 to 3 years and move back CONUS to have kids and live... seems like a great opportunity while I do not have kids. Company would pay for everything to move down there including shipping our two cars (S70 would be sold or stay behind) since I have been with the firm for 3+ years. Had another dude move down there who loves it, he is a surfer... but I could not see myself staying and living there forever since the school system there is shit.
flyfishing3
if you could be sure of a short stint that would be cool. like i said cost of living is a ton, everything is basically boated over so $$$$$. good point about not having kids and having an experience. if i was in your position i'd think about it hard. 7 VII 7
yeah, well I think they would not increase my salary which would stink because from all the research I have done the cost of living is about 8% to 10% higher there. So I would have to get an increase to work there... but who knows. Yeah manager said not to contact anyone until I am 100% because they would want me to start right away.... like October right away.
Mesoam
didn't you just buy a condo too? ouch.... and there is actually a guy here that moved from PA to Hawaii, i talked to him about it for a while
7 VII 7
I did not buy a condo..... lol I would never buy a condo. I am renting and saving a boat load. The ONLY thing keeping from me moving there for 2 to 3 years would be the fact that I would not get a COL increase.
Young Burnsy
I think you need to find longer shorts before you can move to hawaii.

Black Betty
really? that's all you have? I feel like Hawaii would be cool for a summer job as a college student but actually doing a real job and living there for 2 years would suck... You wont find any deals. When you do order parts its going to take a week atleast. I dont know of anyone down there whos on VS to help with anything. If something major was to happen who would you use to do the repair. And then you have to worry about dog the bounty hunter lol
64pvolvo1800
If you've never been on an island for longer than a few days, you can't really understand the term "island fever". When you see the hurricane bearing down on you and realize there are only 37 sq miles of ground..... it can be a bit unnerving. (Oahu has more area than that, but 37 miles circumference is the number I think). At any rate, the walls can close in quick. I spend a lot of time on Parrot Cay in the Turks Caicos Islands. We're talking about 3 miles long and 1/2 mile wide at the widest point, so waaaay smaller than Oahu, but same concept. They've been hounding me to move there but there isnt enough money. They keep upping the number and I keep saying no.
