The Chronicles Of Area 34, formerly 55

My question is, if the 2.3 liter duratec was available standart, why buy the car with the 1.6 just to swap the 2.3 anyway?

C30 is available with a 1.8 or 2.0 Duratec HE only. The 1.6 is a Zetec engine. The reason for buying a 1.6 is price. Second hand C30's are pretty expensive still.

At first I was thinking of building a 1.6 turbo but changed my mind later on. Better would have been to look for a 1.8 or 2.0 but they are roughly 3500 Euro more expensive.

Hi Johann,

You may find these interesting since you are thinking about the 2.3 swap.

Ford Escape 2.3(No VVT) on a Focus MKII

Mazda6 2.3 (With VVT) also on a Focus MKII

And 2.3 with Turbo. on a Focus MKII

You can try google language tool for translation from Chinese (Traditional).

A different application for the Volvo..

The Quad thing continues.

Kids have been driving nearly every weekend in both good and bad weather. Last week was horrible. One big mud bath and the Quads had a rough time plowing through the mud.

It had been raining a lot all week. Most tracks in the area were closed but "our" track decided to stay open because it looked like the weather was going to be nice... From the start it showed that the track was one huge pool of mud. The quads and also the bikes had to work hard and often the wheels were simply spinning without traction. The weird thing was, in total there were 4 Yamaha Raptor's on the track, my oldest son now also drives a Raptor, but my nephew normally being the fastest of them all was the slowest now.. His Raptor just came back from maintenance and received a few mods but apparently the tires weren't working at all. Turned out there was way to much pressure in the tires but also considerable wear. After some adjustment the quad behaved a bit better but the speed wasn't there and even my son was quicker on the track. Later on it started raining real hard and everything became one big mud mess. I was also worried because the V70 is only FWD and with the huge trailer I was afraid to get stuck in the mud, car is on 245/40-18 summer tires.. Kids were all muddy and soaked and I didn't want those mud balls to waste the car's interior so I planted them on the trailer on top of their quads and drove home with a 10 mph or so speed. V70 just drove out of the mud without a sigh and the Kids loved loved the ~4 mile ride home. :D

Today the weather was nice but with the ground being soaked/saturated the track was still very muddy. V70 turned out to be the perfect offroader again,

The big boys were ready,

As the picture shows nephew on new tires.

And there they went in to the big mud pool,

And later on shampoo was allowed to ride the big track,

Nephew,

New tires gave him good speed but because of that he also rolled over 4 times and bend the steering shaft.. <_<
