Yeah smart ass that just proves my point. Some laws target operator behavior - speed, obeying signals, not driving erratically, etc. These are called traffic laws. And they are locale specific. Whereas laws that govern vehicle equipment are generally governed by the State where the car is registered.

right. if you are driving a car registered in a single plate state (New Mexico, lets say) through a Double plate state (like MN) MN can not ticket you for only having one plate.

but, i'm not sure if say WI (also double plate) can ticket me for not having both my MN plates displayed.

vehicle equipment laws apply to the registered state. i can't tint my front windows or than i think 50% in MN, (legally, of course) but i can Drive to CA and get limo black (i think that's legal out there, right?) i won't have to worry about a ticket in Cali, but i bet i'll be getting a ticket not too long after i'm back in MN!

as an out of Stater he could be targeted for revenue purposes.

That sounds like you've heard of my wife's Nebraska speeding tickets!

I honestly think it depends on the officer and how douchey you are..

I've been pulled over many times for tint/front plate and never been given a ticket. I let them search the car and then go on my way

However my room mate was pulled over two days ago and given a repair order for wheels/tires, suspension, tint, exhaust, front plate.....

I would put my pennies he was being douche to the cops also.

If your state requires a front plate the only state you can be ticketed for that is your own state.

Even if another state requires it and you drive through that state they cant ticket it you for it.

Example:

Driving through ohio and pulled over while speeding and no liscense.

Car is tinted at 25%

Tint at that level is illegal on the front windows in Ohio.

I ask the officer if he cant ticket me for that and I can leave.

Officer says no since thats a per stat based item and regardless if its illegal in Ohio my car is regerstered in PA so he cant ticket me for those types of items.

How VA gets away with the radar detector thing still boggles my mind .

Now say you have Neons or LEDs under your car .

Yes there illegal in PA and I would guess also in Ohio.

Can the cop give you a ticket for them ? I would say no , but can he give you a ticket for something else if your a douche.

Sure

Interesting interpretation by a Virginia State Trooper here.

Can we give you a ticket? Yes. Unless I suspect you of something else, I probably won't pull you over for it. If you're a jerk after I pull you over, I'll find a reason to give you a ticket, even for your window tint in an OOS vehicle. You are obliged to obey all safety laws in the Commonwealth when traveling our roads. Window tinting is considered a safety issue due to lost visibility.

Having front tags is not the same thing. It is not a safety issue and, as long as your state does not issue both a front an rear tag, we can't ticket you for not having one. If your state does issue both and you only have one on your vehicle, we can cite you for it.

For the license plate citation, you would get a ticket for failure to properly display license plates. You are legally obligated to have your tags in compliance with the laws of the state that it is registered in. Leaving that state does not remove that obligation. Those computers that sit in our patrol cars have all sorts of interesting information in them, including each state's display requirements. Just obey the law and you won't have to worry about it.

The Reciprocity agreements related to Virginia agreeing to enforce registration and titling laws of other states if they do also. We have agreements with 45 other states. Chances are violators will be from one of them.

I'm tired of Nigerian scammers. I'm trying to sell my phone on ebay/CL

Put it up on ebay and within a day someone buys it and emails me daily they have sent the payment and wants me to ship to nigeria

Now I have 3 more sending me emails on CL claiming they paid

Anyone have any ideas on how to prank them? I was just going to send them a link to meatspin.com (NWS) but I'm not creative
