I hope the pictures are only accentuating the flaws more than they actually are, because the piston in the first two pics looks to be in pretty rough shape... The gouges appear to be quite deep...

the good news, is the other ones cleaned up nicely...

The one big gouge is about as deep as the stock valve recesses. All I could do was remove all high spots & chamfer the edges to eliminate potential hot spots. I'm not removing the piston, so it is what it is.

$150 in machine shop labor, the new valve is in, valve seat re-cut, clearance adjusted, opposite exhaust valve also removed & checked,

Head is back on the car, exhaust & water pipe buttoned up, cams in & set to Enem spec lift, cam cover torqued, cam gears set & t/belt installed.

Tomorrow I'm helping Adam finish up his head install, so hopefully I'll finish mine up on Friday.

Do it! :D

Nice!!

I'm just concerned about oil loss through the breather system - I haven't run sustained 7K+ rpm's of late, so I don't know if my breather is up to it with the new cams, only one way to find out!

Ballsy! Torque isn't falling on it's face up there?

I don't know Mark - with the new cams it's breathing so much better. I haven't tried any sustained WOT runs, somehow little things have kept getting in the way

Little things like dropping a valve? Yeah.

The newer port design should help a bit with high-end power too. At least you know that if it spins that high without mishap, the engine is finally in good shape for some serious driving

Did a few 7K runs, then only took it up 7.5K earlier this afternoon, definitely flat by then, so not much point going to 8200, I guess. No oil in the vent can.

Did a quick 60-130 pull this evening

Feels good, at lower boost than before. Just need to get my WI sorted out to see if the timing improves.

I think we know exactly what's needed to keep the torque nice and flat without falling off ph34r.gif How is it going anyway? That's the last thing H needs to finish off the project!

Good to see it running again H bad luck lately!

Was that 60-130 on a hill or flat? If I'm reading that right it took 16 seconds, what boost was that (I remember you saying boost logging is reading X psi too low)

Thanks, JC

That was level road @ 1.3Kg/cm2 - so approx 1.25bar, 18.5psi. I haven't tried it at any higher boost yet. The overall feel is much better - the Enem cams give me more pull from 3K in any given gear, it now seems better matched to the M66/AWD. I don't have to downshift as much.

The timing was pulled more in 5th gear (that was 3-5th run of course). I want to get my WI sorted out & do a comparison pull.. EDIT, actually just realized the 3rd gear timing was pulled more...

Thw WMI will help the timing no doubt.

It's just fighting symptoms. Something in the basis is off.

Also the apparent need for an MSD box to perform seems odd to me. Stock distributer setup should be more than capable handling 17 psi of boost.

Did you check base timing with a light ?
