It's just fighting symptoms. Something in the basis is off.

Also the apparent need for an MSD box to perform seems odd to me. Stock distributer setup should be more than capable handling 17 psi of boost.

Did you check base timing with a light ?

You are probably right. My car seems to be always underpowered for whatever hardware I have. :(

17psi on a Garrett 60-1 compressor? I had no need of it with any TD04HL turbo, but when I switched to the 20g, I had to run much closer gaps before the MSD6a box was installed. With it, I was able to keep .032" -0.34" plug gap.

In 4th, the least timing was 9º @ 18.5psi (logs underreport by 1.5-2psi,), which isn't so bad, my max timing is set to 9-10º @ 100% load anyway...

How do I check with a timing light when there are no plug wires? I don't have the facility to check COP based ignition with a timing light...

1) Get old sparkplug wire

2) Cut the boot off that attached to the distributor

3) Remove cop.

4) Jam cut off end of old plug wire into the cop

5) Attach other end of plug wire to spark plug

6) Use timing light on plug wire as normal.

That I can do

What reference marker is used, though? The notch on the inside of the crank gear is not visible with the tensioner in place. I did punch a notch in the crank pulley for actual TDC, I suppose that would be fine.

I just put a tdc mark on the front pulley and front tbelt cover (paint marker).

Made a ground cable for the coil pack & cut down an old X1/9 plug wire

IMG_8839.jpg

crank marked @ TDC (left), then approx 5º BTDC, and the stock belt setup notch, which is approx 20º BTDC

IMG_8841.jpg

not extremely precise, but close enough to see that the timing is in keeping with the logged timing - typically 5-8º BTDC @ 850-900rpm. (Even if I raise it in the map, it will still run in that range)

Timing advanced normally when revved.

Since I have COP, I figured I'd try running OEM plugs again (8692071)

took out the BKR7Es's, gapped @ .028" look pretty clean

Volvo plugs, stock gap of .030" (checked)

raised boost up to 20.5psi

Tomorrow I'll try to get the same pull with WI, for comparison.

Numbers are looking much nicer!! I say raise the boost to 25-30psi hussein in all honesty your tune looks pretty solid, just add a bit more fuel and keep raisin the boost the block can definetely handle it and that turbo really shines @ about 25 psi

whats up with the random dip in the middle of the graph though? Should check that out

 Every 1psi increase = 12WHP, I'm not going to run that much boost without careful & gradual adjustments

Which graph are you referring to? The dyno graph? If so the dip is the normal Torque & HP crossover point @ 5252rpm

EDIT - looking @ the data logs, it's really too rich for much of the pull, so perhaps that accounts for the dip in the 5,5-6K range. I'll have to try lowering the WOT in that range & see what happens.

Hey, I decided to jump on the dyno as well today. I'll post the printout when I get home.

303whp with My buddies TT (not tuned for my setup) and white injectors. The dyno guy turned off my car after coming off the dyno so I didn't seethe peak values but it was set to 1bar.

That's impressive for 15psi! Definitely post the printout - I made a showroom Dyno thread, if you want to add it there.

I'd like to see Shawn Roberts graph - anyone know him/ his setup?

He was the guy who made 360WHP right? He was pretty secretive on what he had :-/

yea were all waiting on him to reveal whats in the ecu box because it seems to work well...i mean it got a VMS motor to 360+whp hah

Posted in there with the print outs.

I didn't get to see his run, too bad but he made great power.

Hussein-

I’ll try and post up my sheet over in the thread you created in showroom if I have a chance tonight. I started to run a bit lean in the upper RPM’s.

Not trying to be secretive on what I have. It’s just not my place to say what I’m doing for the tune just yet. My buddy Larry is the one who stuck his neck out on is S60R and made it work, so he deserves all the credit. Once I realized that it works I took the plunge as well. It still has a few bugs to work out with communication and software…but it’s pretty neat IMO.
