bdimag
It's going to be a long day. And by that, I mean I'm checking out early both physically and mentally to go watch paint dry at home because it'll be more fun. Fuck old software, shitty code, poor practices, lack of comments, complete lack of development environment blablabla I could go on for days. For those who know, you'll get how awesome this is. 3k lines of poorly written code, wrapped in one giant try catch. The catch just dumps the exception out and quits. Barely any comments, and the ones that are there aren't useful. i don't comment for shit but still I've only ever taken over someone else's project once... and i didn't care for it. Hell, I hate revisiting my own code sometimes and will just completely throw it out and start over.
Fudge_Brownie
i don't comment for shit but still I've only ever taken over someone else's project once... and i didn't care for it. Hell, I hate revisiting my own code sometimes and will just completely throw it out and start over. Common problem among coders, hating the previous author's code. I struggle with the same problem. Am I just being a stubborn asshole and hating shit that isn't mine, or is this really that bad that it needs to be re-written? The problem is that this code is so unstable, so poorly written, and been revised by at least 6 different people over the course of ~5 years, that its a fucking disaster. And as it grows, it gets worse. But the effort involved to fix it is huge compared to putting your 3 line patch in and wiping your hands of it. Oh, did I mention it only has like 5 methods in those 3k LOC, one of which is 700 lines. If code is written well, and the concepts are relatively common, comments become dramatically less important. However, I'd encourage you to comment anything and everything. It's a good habit. Don't think about "is it worth it". Just comment as you go. Black Betty
diabetes.jpg did you see this one? One math problem question read, “If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in one week?” http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/01/georgia-school-investigates-slave-math-problems/
