We know a shotgun was there but the articles you link to say there wasn't. So the articles are at least partially wrong. Anyways, even if the guns were in a gunsafe it's reasonable to assume he would have access to the keys after killing his mother in whatever fashion he chose. This is all besides the fact of what the 2nd Ammendment is there for. Reasonable regulation is already in place.

Only problem with your proposition Mike is that the guns are being acquired through trades with meth head thieves or guys who are buying them legally and turning around to sell them at a profit on the black market. You must have a FOID in order to acquire a gun in Illinois.

If you want to go totally off the deep end on this, there's a huge conspiracy theory around Sandy Hook.

Video seems to show a gun being pulled from the trunk that looks like the an AR-15. But question is whether that is the first time the trunk was opened. The tinfoil hats go much deeper than that with a theory that Lanza and his mom were plants and three other shooters were involved.

Who the hell knows. The news was so screwed up in their reporting of this that all kinds of facts were thrown out that have turned out to be proven incorrect since. All of which feeds the conspiracy theorists.

So you think that they pulled th eBushmaster off the kid, took that evidence and placed it in the trunk, and then opened the trunk? O.o

Well, the Bushmaster is NOT an assault rifle by federal standards anyways ...

Finding the Bushmaster in the Trunk of the car which was cordoned off = http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=RDw0DUpKssA#!

Who the hell knows what the police did in this situation. I'm under the opinion that there is no conspiracy here, that someone screwed up the facts, that events are out of sequence, that there is no global picture from examining what the media has reported. It's possible they collected up the guns and dropped them in the trunk - though that would be a major screw up from a forensics perspective. There's no reason for any State Trooper to be emptying a gun of its ammunition right there in the parking lot, not before the forensics team has looked it over. They should have opened the trunk, noted the gun, and then sealed it.

You will get your ass handed to you for that in most agencies. Weapons have to be cleared and bagged before going back.

Firearms are cleared upon confinscation. This is basic nationwide policy.

If you want to get really into the conspiracy theory thing check out the interviews with parents. I'm not into the conspiracy thing but this weirded me out anyways. Just days after the incident where their kids were killed they are on tv smiling and laughing. Not one tear. Then there's the father who gave a little speech. Before he gets on stage he's smiling, talking, and laughing with everyone around him. Right before he gets up to talk he starts huffing and puffing (if you've been around kids you know this is the way to get yourself worked up). It was freaky to watch that stuff. Ok, I'll take off the tin-foil now.

From a document purported to be from a California Department of Justice Physical Evidence bulletin:

EVIDENCE FIREARMS-HANDLING AND SAFETY:
The location and condition of firearms and related evidence at a crime scene should be diagramed and photographed before recovering and securing. Although physical evidence is important, safety must be the first consideration. Each situation should be evaluated before deciding to unload an evidence firearm. (Caution, treat a firearm at all times as if it were loaded). If the weapon is a type that can be safely transported in a loaded condition, this can be done. However, depending on the circumstances it may be unnecessary or unwise to transport a loaded firearm. It should then be unloaded, with care taken to preserve all types of possible evidence. This evidence includes fingerprints, blood, hair or fibers, cylinder "halos", and debris in the barrel and/or cylinder. The weapon should be handled on those areas least likely to retain latent fingerprints such as knurled or checkered areas.

UNLOADING SINGLE SHOT OR AUTOLOADING FIREARMS:
Before securing the firearm as evidence make a record of the position, as found, of any safety, cocking indicator, loaded chamber indicator, selector, or other control feature. With the firearm pointed in a safe direction, remove the magazine. Next, clear the chamber by slowly drawing back the slide/bolt handle. With the slide/bolt to the rear, examine the chamber visually to isure that no cartridge is in the chamber. Separately package the firearm, any detachable magazine, and/or extracted cartridges/cases. Again, take care to preserve any possible fingerprings or trace evidence. Do not remove cartridges from the magazine, or mark the cartridges/cases directly.

Watching that video, I'm not seeing that kind of care being taken.

From the Washington State Manual of Evidence Collection (Section 7-1):

If the weapon is loaded, it must be unloaded before shipping to the crime laboratory. If, for
some reason, the firearm cannot be unloaded, the submitting agency must call the crime
laboratory and determine when and how to hand deliver the firearm to the laboratory.

• If the firearm is to be processed for latent fingerprints, caution is necessary not to smear or
destroy the prints and not to wipe off or contaminate potential DNA on the firearm. The
submitting agency should call the crime laboratory for instructions if there are questions
about latent fingerprints or DNA before packaging and sending the evidence. The
submitting agency should call the crime laboratory for instructions before packaging and
sending the evidence.

Point is, the rules don't seem entirely consistent. I wouldn't ship a loaded weapon and I wasn't calling for it to be shipped. My comment was it seemed like the State Troopers were being rather cavalier with the evidence.

Screw it - I don't want to go this path at all. Never mind what I previously wrote in this paragraph - deleted.

Back to the topic at hand - will we pass a Federal Bill? Wonder what progress Biden is making with his commission.

California shouldn't be used for an example of anything positive, lol. We were expected to clear enemy weapons in the Army. I imagine that Cali is the exception and not the rule.

Biden keeps meeting with Holder which is just laughable in my eyes. I imagine they are seriously considering most of the provisions in Feinsteins proposal.

I'd bet we end up with the following: Hicap magazine ban (what that level will be is questionable), the banning of certain firearms (with grandfathering), improve the strictness of background checks, mandatory wait times for all firearm purchases, mandatory registration of all firearms. I'm not saying these things are right obviously ... I just think they are the likely proposals which could pass.
