You do enough staged accidents prior to prom at every High School plus the gory videos they show in Driver's Ed and you begin to get the point across to kids that alcohol and driving is a bad idea.

if kids would watch the news, they would also learn how bad guns are? only takes a few minutes in to get to the local gun shootings/deaths.

that doesn't stop them, and unfortunately, the vids don't stop people from getting behind the wheel either.

The saying goes that locks keep honest people honest. Same principle with the videos and education. The outliers are going to be hard sells. Teenagers are foolhardy but all of my friends as a kid were smart enough to put a designated driver behind the wheel when they drank. Sure there were kids at school who didn't but they were in the minority.

This goes back around to the mental health topic. Yes, teaching about gun safety does help prevent accidental shootings, like the hunting accidents brought up earlier. I know I was taught to shoot very young, and I think that helps. I think that is true with many skills, and I think many people taught gun safety will agree. However, that doesn't prevent people from going around killing others in a drug war, or going postal. That's a mental health issue, or a "street violence" issue.

Both are not addressed so much with teaching about guns directly. Street violence, gun or no gun, is about having opportunities, role models, and reducing poverty. Someone needs to teach them right from wrong, cause it wasn't done at home. The "postal" shootings are people aren't straight in the head. I don't know if you can teach that away. But you need to give family and friends a way to help the nutty without locking them up.

There was an article back a while ago that debunked the theory about how easy it is to pick up a gun illegally in Chicago. The black market is not as loose as some believe. While that may not be the case in the legal market, you still have to jump through hoops (including an FOID card) in order to make that purchase in Illinois.

Chuck is bang on in regards to education. Sarah gets taught to break down, clean, handle, and fire - ALL of our firearms shortly after they come home. If I can't hold up a gun for a second from accross the room and have her tell me if the safety is on or off ... Then she's going through it all again until she's comfortable. If I'm to have guns in my home and Sarah in my own then they must be confortable with eachother for all our safety (in several regards). Several states (including my home state of NY) now have mandatory driver safety classes. Yes it's mandatory so it's legislation but it's based on the principle of education. Hunters safety courses are a great deal of general safety info and a nice splash of hunters ethics. EDUCATE the public. Just like we educated them about drinking/driving, smoking (leading cause of death), and more recently obesity (2nd leading cause which kills >800 per DAY).

This is besides the fact that the 2nd Ammendment was written for the people to have final say in government (through enforcement of the constitution or the threat thereof). That final say is meaningless if the only thing the government allows you to have is muskets and freaking revolvers because you've lost the ability to enforce and have therefor lost that right in its entirity.

Lucas I can understand why you look at these events as some kind of conspiracy but assuming rational behavior on the part of irrational people is part of the problem. Why didn't the Aurora theater shooter pull off his entire plan? In part because it wasn't well thought out - there were flaws in his system. And second, the mind does funny things once the adrenaline release is over. Buyers' remorse would perfectly explain his actions. Either that or simple satisfaction that he accomplished his desired impact and didn't really want to die when confronting the police.

As for the Sandy Hook new reporting fiasco? Think back at 9/11 and all of the various theories that floated about due to bad information in the immediate hours of the attacks. It's called the fog of war. You don't know what's going on and yet we have a fantastic broadcast system for sharing incorrect information at the speed of light across a broad population. And the initial information becomes permanent in the minds of many. Add to that the reality that you never get ALL of the details immediately following an incident like you would in a 30 minute or one hour TV drama - in some part for legal reasons and in other part because no one is interested 2 weeks later. That's just the reality of the situation.

I know, the shooter on the knoll, the Gulf of Tonkin, steel of the twin towers, and now we have crazy shooters. There must be a conspiracy to enslave us. Probably the Tripartite, Illuminati, the New World Oder and the Bilderberg Group at play. Did I remember to mention George Soros, the devil himself?

you can be for something but still think they are bad. bra's

What? I never took you for a feminist bra burner Mike. Most women I know appreciate them for their....er....support. Especially when bigger than a B cup.

And I'm deeply curious as to why insurance is so bad.
