Burn-E
We're basically going back to 1994 with Feinstein driving the AWB bill. Biden will recommend funding for stricter background checks and coordination of mental health and criminal record DBs. Plus ça change c'est la même chose. Pretty much exactly what I predicted. Nothing is changing but everyone will be patting each other on the back.
Commander Riker
I think from this... nothing will change in terms of weapons restrictions. However, it will be used to justify why the government needs to spy on it's people. "For safety!" :-/
550
I can't read that article. By NYS did pass a draconian gun ban. Pretty stupid restrictions Here are some of the parts of the NY law: Background check for Ammo! (Granted I get my ammo from Missouri anyway but, still.) * ban on pre 1994 mags with cap of 11 or more * ban on mags over 7 rounds * background checks on all ammo purchases * mental health reporting which is to be checked against the (new??) gun registry database * 1 feature test for AW. Bushmaster AR banned by name * 10 round mags to be grandfathered in but may only be loaded with 7 rounds (read elsewhere this will be a misdemeanor) * all sales of ammo from registered ammo dealers to be reported to local police * background check on all ammo purchases * ban of direct internet ammo purchases * ammo purchases to go through FFL *large ammo purchases must be notified to law enforcement. (What is a large ammo purchase ?) * five year renewable registration for AW and handguns My favorite of ridiculousness is the 10 round mags can only be filled with 7 rounds. caanglin
Isn't Chicago/Illinois enough of an example of how gun control doesn't work? Edited January 15, 2013 by fivex84

Fudge_Brownie
They banned a gun.. by NAME? WTF? So Bushwhacker 223 coming soon?I also wonder what the indirect result of mental health reporting will be? Obviously people who lose their shit and get the leather straps get reported on. But are "smart" gun owners going to avoid counselling or therapy they might need, because they know it'll get reported so they'll just skip it?Do they track total ammo ordered? Because otherwise, I take my order, divide by max purchase, and that's how many times I have to click Buy It Now.
Burn-E
Or you spread your purchases across multiple retailers and days.
D s50r
Yea nys as of right now is doing a indirect gun ban hang on let me get all the details of it it's really depressing This was posted by a Moderator on NYF this is his interpretation of the new laws ot may or may not be true All private firearm sales require a NICS check starting 60 days from enactment. Dealer performing NICS check may not charge more than $10 fee. "Assault weapons" can be sold to someone in NY state who can legally own them for 1 year after enactment. "Assault weapons" can be sold to someone outside of NY state any time. Starting 1 year after enactment the sale must be reported. "Large capacity ammunition feeding devices" can be sold to someone in NY state who can legally own them for 1 year after enactment. Magazines up to 10 rounds in capacity can be loaded to their full 10 round capacity when at a duly incorporated indoor or outdoor shooting range or when at a competition under the auspices of the NRA or IHMSA. No magazine can be loaded with more than 7 rounds of ammunition except as noted above starting 60 days after enactment. Possession of a preban (1994 ban) magazine that holds more than 10 rounds is unlawful starting 60 days after enactment. This seems to conflict with the item that I wrote above that says you can sell them to someone in NY state for 1 year. I'm confused; I must understand some part of it wrong. Sales of ammo require a background check starting 1 year from enactment. I am unsure if this applies to private party sales as the definition of an ammunition seller is "SELLER OF AMMUNITION" MEANS ANY PERSON, FIRM, PARTNERSHIP, CORPO RATION OR COMPANY WHO ENGAGES IN THE BUSINESS OF PURCHASING, SELLING OR KEEPING AMMUNITION."Please go here and sign the petition http://nysecond.org/

Gideon35T
Many states and counties are passing/proposing similar legislation. Dozens of letters from police departments have been sent to the capitol stating that they wont enforce any such laws.
