Johann
Thought about iTB but the engine is low compression turbo setup.
Gideon35T
Thought about iTB but the engine is low compression turbo setup. And? ITB contained within a high flow plenum works fine :-)
Commander Riker
Probably coolest volvo shop ever. Want to know more about this C30. It sounds like you have too many projects, and should just give it to me.
Brad850
This is an amazing picture. Would kill to have roads like this around me. Edited April 30, 2013 by brad850
Johann
And? ITB contained within a high flow plenum works fine :-) Yes and no.. Apart from space constrains I also think ITB combined with turbo doesn't benefit much except a whole lot of complexity. Building the SDM car with the ITB's was mainly done for sound. Power wasn't my main goal. I think the sound came out nice. Power was, for me, a bit above expectation given the parts used. The person who helped me spec the cams expected a bit more from the setup. At least 10-15 HP more. For sound I guess this video represents it best, Thing is that once boost is added the sound will be gone. The suction of the NA engine is what hammers down the intake producing that specific sound. All other the engine is already spec'd for more than enough power for track usage. The car will be light which will help overcome the lag of the 8.2:1 compression and the slightly slow spooling GT3076. All the info of the C30 is in this thread somewhere. To repost some of the future specs, I have mixed and matched various parts of RN and RNC engine's and internals of the white S70's engine, The engine block came from a 2004 RN B5204T5 engine. It's a 81 mm bore block overbored to 81.5 mm. The 2004 block has all the RNC characteristics moulded in. The whole block was machined to match the RNC setup and the head and crank pan of a RNC 2.4 NA engine were used to transform the engine to full RNC. From the former SDII, the white S70, the internals of the build engine were transferred. To sum it up in pictures, For the S70 engine, CP Pistons, Cunningham rods and a knife edged crank, 2004 RN block, With RNC parts, Some more parts, Some changes on the outside, VVT delete, Near complete with "V50" M56 with Quaife adde combined with single mass flywheel, S60R clutch plate and SPEC 3+ pressure plate, And an indication of the turbo setup used, Scitech plenum and 550 CC injectors, In the car, Intercooler, Exhaust partially finished,
Gideon35T
Throttle response pre spool would be nice with the ITBs. I would agree that it's a waste of money and time when that same effect can be had elsewhere. I was simply responding that it IS still doable. Commander Riker
Thanks for posting info on the C30. It's very cool!!
lookforjoe
Nice to see those RNC pics! Do you have more of the oil cooler setup with the later pipes? I bought one of those deeper coolers and the hoses, but I'm unsure what I have to modify to route the hoses correctly. I don't have a spare RN block to mock it up on. Johann
With the RNC engine the cooler is placed 30 mm further to the front. ...

Johann
Keeping this one stock ? for a week ? Thinking about an R-Kelly mod... Came with RICA chip and full Ferrita DP-exhaust . Dyno'd at 420Nm and 325 crank HP. Power wise it's OK. Needs some TLC. First the AWD needs to be fixed. Pegs have street disease one rim lost half of it's paint. Car has done 196k km. Fairly good and well documented maintenance history. For mods, JR air filter element and 10 mm rear spacers. Still have the spacers. Filter ordered. Maybe Eibach springs. Don't think it needs more mods.
