Fudge_Brownie
Of the lightning caused deaths between 2006 and 2013, 81% were male according to a NOAA report. Total sample size: 261 people.http://www.lightningsafety.noaa.gov/resources/RecentLightningDeaths.pdfI always thought the best way to avoid lightning was a ditch, laying down. Apparently laying down is incorrect. But the correct position looks like a Soviet army torture technique.

survolvo
Reading through the latest C&D mag this morning while dropping the kids off at the pool, I came across the article "Deutshland De-Restricteded" which talks about certain parts of the ever changing Autobahn. In one section the writer is talking about getting on an unrestricted part of the road in a 577hp s63 Merc. He talks about settling at a 100mph cruise and still being passed by others. "The S-class settles into a 100-mph cruise over impeccably smooth blacktop, yet we're still being overtaken by a stream of faster cars. No 911 GT3s with pink wheel - a not uncommon sight in Germany - but a Volvo V70 complete with both a roof box and two small children in the back, loping down the outside lane at an easy buck-twenty"
Fudge_Brownie
Volvo P80 cars cruise effortlessly and deceptively... can confirm. This site claims average rural, unrestricted speeds are 150kph (93mph)http://www.allkmc.com/how-to-survive-the-german-autobahn/31393/It also describes how they put down quality pavement, and how running out of gas on the highway is illegal.I just got back from a vacation in Vermont. Took a non-highway route home (Rt 100). Pavement was amazing, in an area that experiences a very severe winter. Passing on the double yellow is legal. The law basically says you have to use your brain when doing it, or it wasn't a legal pass. There are "no passing" zones signed when it is particularly dangerous. Big segments of the road were posted 50, but the turns were cautioned strongly, and when it passed through towns the speed limit drops and you were warned several times. It was paradise. Then I crossed the MA line, in a similarly rural area, and went from riding a motorcycle to a horse, very little signage, sand in the turns, and 30mph. survolvo
Even though passing over a double yellow is technically illegal in CA, you can sometimes get it dismissed if you can provide evidence that the area you were passing in had at least 100yds of visibility and you were not driving recklessly. This happens quite a bit on the hwy I drive because of the slow tourist. I have never been ticketed for passing over double yellow, but have been pulled over for it. After explaining to the officer that I had been following the car I passed at 20mph in a 55mph for the last 5+ miles, and even though they were given opportunities to pull off and passed multiple signs stating "SLOWER VEHICLES USE TURNOUTS" they hadn't. He proceeded to let me off, than jumped in his patrol and rushed ahead and pull over the other car for impeding with traffic.

Burn-E
Wow Erik. You never know who will succumb to the temptation of spending / travel accounts. It has surprised me to see a few coworkers who made really stupid decisions. Especially with a corporate credit card.this good for you? lol Mike, it's a fairly gallows question but I was wondering the same.
ErikS
this good for you? Lol, not ready to be a VP quite yet - happy where I am. Sad to see him go, he only lasted 16 months and was a great guy, lots of fun to work with. does 60K include flights? that can add up QUICK if he's flying biz class everywhere He had business class anyway flying international. Wow Erik. You never know who will succumb to the temptation of spending / travel accounts. It has surprised me to see a few coworkers who made really stupid decisions. Especially with a corporate credit card. lol Mike, it's a fairly gallows question but I was wondering the same. Unfortunately and from the conversation with the COO, it was a vice while not illegal, certainly not akin to our clients ethics and who we serve.
