Any other track mods foreseen johann?  Brakes, tires, exhaust, suspension? :) :)

Nothing foreseen but I have been investigating everything you mention..

I want to drive the car the way it is first.

If I want to do brakes it will have to be 6 pot - 356 mm rotor minimum.

Suspension I think will be KW. They have several options available because the V40 shares parts with the Ford Focus.

Tires.. Still have a set of Kumho V70A 225/40-18 on TDR ProRace 1.5 rims available,

Exhaust isn't much available. Received a weird reply from Ferrita directing me to Volvo. As if there's a V40 Polestar in the pipeline..

So.. About the track day Emiel and I attended. It was a blast to say the least.

Last Sunday we left Area 34 with the P60 and the V40 using the P as a parts truck and back up vehicle in case something would not go as planned and we headed for the South of the Netherlands. Emiel had arranged a place to sleep in a town with very narrow streets..

Next morning at 07:15 we went on for the last 55 km to Belgium.

We arrived at the circuit at 08:15

in time for the briefing at 08:30.

Due to some every oil spillage on the track it took about an hour longer before we could start. In the mean time some last preparation was done by Emiel, GoPro,

While I was trying to build some confidence drinking a watery coffee..

The plan has been from the start to drive the car as stock as possible. The only mods were the two tow eyes added and the tire pressure lowered slightly compared to advised by Volvo for road use. Stock street tires, Bridgestone Potenza RE050A 235/35-19. Stock 320 mm brakes which btw now come with different callipers compared to the ATE ones used on C30/S40/V50/C70. The older style callipers had proven to be pretty consistent with good performance. Not outstanding but good. The car has no spare tire but a repair kit with compressor. I ordered a full 19" spare with Bridgestone tire last week just to make sure not running in to the same problem I had last time with the S60R.

Then came the first meters on an unfamiliar and unfortunately also a wet track. Yes I was driving the Spa Francorchamps race track which I have been wanting to do for so long. A dream come true. But not with confidence. This also because of the oil issues which later on didn't turn out to be as severe as told.

The track itself is basically just as overwhelming as the Nurburgring with huge elevation differences. For preparation I have watched some video's but non of them really showed how much incline there really is. Eau Rouge is famous but the back part of the track is just as impressive. What goes up must come down so to speak.

During the day the track dried and the track became more familiar. Speeds went up a bit to the point where the limit of the tires and brakes were reached and also the limits of the driver.

But what a blast!. And the V40 was also a delight to drive.

Best. Trackday. Ever.

I enjoyed it very much, as a co-driver and driver. Eau Rouge is something special. The compression on the car, the lack of visible racetrack, the forces on your body. Its awesome. The Nordschleife does have corners that come close, but I think Eau Rouge wins in awesomeness.

Not many cars attended the trackday, like 6 E36's, few GT3's and 968's, and a Viper ACR, which fast very fast.

I was living in the Netherlands 1980-1982 and I think it was 1982 when Freddie Spencer won the 500cc race at Spa.

Those crazy 500s were so fast on the long sections.

I have always been amazed at how beautiful that track is. Thanks for the great video.

Love that track.  Have raced it many times on Real Racing 3 and after Eau Rouge, the back half of the track (Les Combes, Bruxelles, Pouhon, Campus where the elevation drops quickly) seems like a fairly tricky portion as well. As you say, what goes up must come down.

Better race it in a real simulation like Iracing or Assetto Corsa then ;).

I live only 2h from Spa but have never been unfortunately. Maybe because it always rains there :D
