Stormtrooper1
I bought a few. Wife is in a pool at work as well. I'd like to turn this $4 into a some spending money for the upcoming vacation. But in reality I possibly just wasted half a drink.

Chances are it will be some really old person or some really poor person that will have no idea what to do, and waste it all. This guy was one of the few with his head on straight. Won $220 Million and went on living his life. http://www.npr.org/2016/01/10/462555691/how-220m-changed-a-lottery-winner From what I've read he has only spent $1 million of the winnings since then and given ~$2 million to family and friends and has invested the rest of it. His goal is to turn it into $1 billion within 15 years. This guy however: math is HARD.

I was talking with our cafeteria crew and they've got a pool going with a $20 per person stake. There are 15 of them so they feel they're a lock to win. I was in a work pool. For $10 it's some excitement for a few days. Coincidentally we've had a lot of requests from Mormons in Utah to buy them tickets... I guess $600,000,000 is enough to buy someone's "values" yes Burn-E I know you're Mormon. This isn't directed at you.
Burn-E
I know many Mormons who played for this particular Powerball. The lottery as a vice, assuming this is an occasional rather than habitual purchase, would rank as a second or third tier sin when you think about values in the faith. The sort of thing that would cause you to raise your eyebrows and shrug your shoulders if another Mormon confessed playing. That said, the Church would refuse any tithes paid on gambling earnings. When it's the same people who chastised us for having a kid without being married....I still bought them tickets but it amazes me when people stand by their church and when they turn a blind eye towards the teachings...

If they are going to stand there and live by those word and chastise others you better live by them completely or you look like a hypocrite... Kevin.
I was curious and started reading into this. The LDS church does not allow for gambling however they do accept tithing from stocks and investments. Aren't those a form of gambling (playing the devils advocate here)

If you assume many who play are misfortunate, isn't it just a donation to them? :P
