Drift cars tend to have a different set of issues compared to a street car. Like staying in one piece for an extended period of time...

I do not doubt your abilities or experience. I question if it is wise to do all this work and than go "meh" on the last leg of the journey.

This has nothing to do with overtightening clamps or cable ties. The standard clamps will dig into rubber hoses. The cable ties will rub through what they hold together. Wether this because a problem sooner or later is up for debate. A little wiggle room / slack is a good idea, as is additional protection from (obvious) potential issues.

Did you find a new fuel filler hose? In late 2014 / early 2015 I was told the part was no longer available.

Reread my post from yesterday. Sorry, I wasn't trying to come across as argumentative. I'll take another look at the clamps. There are only a couple non-smooth clamps so it won't be a big deal to swap them out before throwing the assembly in. Also adding some padding/sheathing where the nylon lines will be tied up.

The fuel filler hose is NLA from every source I know of. My original was in surprisingly good shape so I just re-used it.

Jason, the ABA clamps that were mentioned earlier are available from Bel-Metric online for a pretty reasonable price; and in my experience are way better to deal with after a couple years on the car than the clamps I've bought at my local parts stores.

I was having issues with my phone early in the weekend so I didn't get many pictures.

I wrapped up several small time consuming things. Got the turbo on and all lines hooked up. Upgraded the angle gear vent to the newer style, changed the pinion seal, and added a drain. Then installed it and filled with fresh fluid. I didn't get pictures of that stuff. There are pictures/write-ups online of what others have done for the angle gear vent and drain.

I changed the hose clamps that everyone is concerned about with some that are smooth on the inside. They aren't OEM or blue, but they are stainless and will work plenty fine. Also reworked the zip ties to relieve some tension and installed some sheathing/loom around the nylon lines where they make contact with anything.

The big accomplishment was getting the subframe/gas tank assembly back in the car! I still need to mount the trailing arms to the car, install the toe arms when they arrive, hook up the fuel lines and wiring, etc.. But the main mounting points for the subframe, gas tank straps and VC are all done!

After the progress on the rear, I needed a change of scenery so I went back up front and re-installed the intake tube, filter tube, etc. also installed the FCP silicone intercooler hose kit. I didn't realize how bad the originals were until I removed them. They were hard, cracking, brittle, and falling apart. Makes me wonder how they held boost at all!

I also finished up the alternator refresh and got that installed. Besides the downpipe/exhaust, heat shield, and battery, most of the work in the engine bay is done.

I had to steal the alternator from the V70R and use it on the C70 temporarily because I had to get it back on the road right away. Decided to try my hand at rebuilding the coupe alternator instead of buying a new one. If I had to do this again, I would have just bought a Bosch unit from FCP with a lifetime warranty, but it was a good learning opportunity. Ended up changing the regulator, "slip ring post", and rear bearing. Upon disassembly, it became obvious why the alternator wasn't working. the lower contact on the slip ring post was worn completely through the copper which in turn destroyed the brush on the regulator. It tested good after re-assembly, so we'll see how long it holds up. If it quits again, I'm buying a new one.

Lastly, while I haven't installed it yet, I did receive my remanufactured driveshaft from Colorado Driveshaft. It looks solid although their paint finish was a bit thick and sloppy. Oh well. If it works and doesn't cause me problems, then I'm happy. Sent the core back this morning. They were fast and hassle free. Would recommend again.

So... getting closer and closer. Plenty of work still to do but I see the light at the end of the tunnel. The only things left are:

-Hook up fuel lines

-Hook up brake lines

-Install driveshaft

-Install rear bumper

-Refurb, fit and Install exhaust.

-Build and install front strut assemblies once struts arrive (any day), then re-assemble front knuckles/suspension

-Install brakes all around.

Actually made a bit of progress last night. First, I started working on the fuel lines. The nylon lines I used kind of had a mind of their own and wanted to coil up, but I managed to get them placed in the track under the car and got that mounted. I made sure that anywhere where the bare nylon line was exposed outside of the track I covered it with some sheathing or loom. Also hooked everything back up at the front of the car. Fuel lines are done as long as they don't leak!  Didn't get any pictures.

Next, I worked on the parking brakes. This was a nice big pile of parts that I'm glad to be done with! Also installed the new cables and mounted them. Lots of anti-seize was used everywhere.  What's everyone's opinion on greasing/oiling the cables? Should I bother? Are they fine as-is? I bought them through FCP, so if they fail they have a lifetime warranty, but they are a pain to change so I'd rather not if I don't have to.

I had a panic moment when I realized that I ordered the parts using the 1998 V70R parts breakdown, when in reality, mine more closely matched the 1997 850 AWD parts diagram. I ran into this before with the differential and VC, but didn't think about it for the brakes. Thankfully, while the picture is a little different, the part numbers all came up the same. I didn't keep track of all the part numbers for the parking brake, Just go to volvopartswebstore.com and look up your model. Their diagrams are great and give all available part numbers.

The basics of what you will need are:

-Shoe Set

-Hardware/spring kit (contains the shoe retaining clips and 4 springs)

-Expanders - 9485387 (x2)

-Shaft - 1206339 (x2) (this attaches the cable to the expander)

-Adjuster link (x2) - Can't find OEM number, but they show up in the FCP lookup

-Adjuster claw (x2) - Can't find OEM number, but they show up in the FCP lookup

-Also cables and retaining clips to hold them to the knuckle.

Note: There's an o-ring (947115) that shows on the VPWS diagram, but they do not fit anywhere that I can find.

Because the e-brake cables were now installed, I was able to re-assemble the back seat area of the interior. The console is still out so I can adjust the e-brake when the rotors go on.

Also installed the newer style rear center armrest (Thanks DDM!). The newer version has a pop-out cup holder that my 1998 did not. So that's neat.

Next, I'll be working on my (hopefully last for a while) FCP order which will include the remainder of the brake parts. I seem to be able to find everything through FCP, but the rear calipers have me confused. They do not show rear calipers for a 1998 V70R. I came up with part number 8111104 from the VPWS lookup, and when searched for on FCP, it crosses to 8111103 of which they do have a Cardone version, however it looks to be without the bracket. They also say that it will not fit a 1998 V70R. Only various models of 760, 780, and 940. Can anyone confirm that these will fit? I should be able to re-use the old brackets.

Found this on IPD, which appears to be the same as the Cardone caliper on FCP: https://www.ipdusa.com/products/7314/115043-rear-brake-caliper-850-s70-v70-awd-960-s90-v90-irs

It specifically says "excludes V70R" so I'd say that it's not the right one.

I think you'll find the  information you need here: http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread.php?204648-99-V70R-Rear-Brake-Design

Thanks for that swedespeed link. Not sure why I hadn't found that earlier. It looks like that calipers in question are correct since my car is a very early 1998 (vin 429410). That would be the thinner, non vented rear brakes that are the same on all 1998 AWD models. Plus the picture looks identical to what came off my car so I'm going to give it a shot. I believe that FCP and IPD are both incorrect about this because there was nothing different or special about rear brakes on a 1998 V70R as I've just learned.
