Gas Prices And Price Gouging >>>>>

Recommended Posts

I read somewhere that the government was keeping an eye on price gouging for gas prices. About 8 months ago I clearly remember here in Virginia Beach, Virginia, that diesel fuel was the cheapest fuel here and it was approx. 30 cents cheaper than regular 87 octane gasoline. The all of a sudden at the end of the year diesel prices went higher than 93 octane and has remained that way ever since approx. 20-30cents higher. Now from my understanding diesel fuel SHOULD be less expensive to make as it is NOT as refined as regular gasoline. SO why the big increase in price ??? Also I am seeing more and more diesel cars on the road and being sold. Makes me wonder if the gas companies are price gouging....errr.. I mean raising the prices because of all this. Let me know what you all think. God Bless. :)

I have no idea how they are keeping an eye on it. My guess is they have someone checking the prices on the barrels and the prices its being sold to stations for. I doubt they're monitoring it at a station level, though.

I know in my area the average stations only earning .03 or .04 cents per galon and the prices are retarded high... I know I paid around 2.41 the other day per galon. I wish they would sell 91 so i could save some $$.

Gouging usually implies something like durring a hurricane. Fuel depots can not up fuel 100% just because people need it for generators. Or lets say local Jiffy Fill wants to up 100% because they are only station that has fuel. Its hard to monitor gouging if the refinery it self is the one doing the screwing.

I would say this has more to do with supply and demand than refinement costs.
