The neo-cons are the farthest thing from isolationist you could ever conceive. Look up hegemony in a political science context. It is our constant meddling in other peoples' affairs over the last 5-6 decades trying to make things better and failing which has given the Arab nations among many others a sour taste regarding the United States.

Diplomatic channels in the Middle East have been exhausted to their full potential *constantly* ever since Israel was created. As soon as there is room for improvement of relations through diplomacy, it happens. Significant progress is made now and then through diplomacy, but generally speaking it is usually at a standstill.

You can't just say "Ok you boys play nice now, let's stop all this killing each other" and suggest that as the pinnacle of effective overseas involvement. Military involvement has not worked well for us in Iraq, but neither did diplomacy. Saddam Hussein was a pretty sneaky guy, we'd been playing the same old games with him for the last decade. Now he is probably playing different games...

Has it improved the stability of the region? No. Has it improved security of our assets in the region? Possibly in some cases. Did it make things much worse? Again, no.

Think of it as when you are driving and switch lanes to pass someone only to come up on traffic going the same speed in your new lane. Just sucks that lives must be lost in such an endeavor. It is impossible to prove that the amount of life lost is more than it would have been if Hussein had remained in power though, just as another thought.

I've spent a lot of time studying Middle Eastern politics and culture as well as international relations in general, so if anyone has any questions I will do my best to answer them..

FYI - The word "Neo-con" as used today is a code word for a Jew. Liberals use the word as a slur against any conservative in lieu of "Nazi" or as a racial slur against a liberal Jew who has converted to conservatism by free will.

FYI the word Neo Con means new conservative, meaing a newer generation of conservatives, differentiated enough from the conservatives of the 60s-70s to warrant the prefix Neo.

The people I hear using the word are usually pundit tools and the people who read their blogs. I usually stop listening to someone as soon as it comes out of their mouth because it is usually followed by some sweeping generalization of conservative ideology.

I might catch some flak for this but pull our troops back to an area(s) surrounding the middle east and just let them kill each other. Do not pick a side to support and let nature take its course. Yes I know a good chunk of the worlds oil is in the middle east but hell there is a good supply of oil and gas in Russia so lets drill there. Once the fighting in the middle east has slowed down we can look at it and see if we can mend bridges.

on a side note. WE (the US) have spent more money by keeping a military presence in the middle east than we have recovered in benefits (read oil), so the law of deminishing returns is still alive and well.

There is a prominent war theorist / author who has actually suggested we let Iraq fall into a full out civil war, and use our military to attack any side which gains any type of advantage in order to prolong the ordeal. I totally forgot why he suggested it but i'll see if he can dig up the article.

I stand by my statement with 100% confidence as to its exact wording to be the defining representation of the phrase in todays political discussions, knowing I do not have the power nor ability to make things like this up and can only report on my observations and findings, i.e. the follow-up references. I assumed this definition was to have been more common knowledge. I see that many have a lot to learn.
