It doesn't get much lower than this.  Politicizing Christopher Reeve's death to try and help his campaign.  Way to go.  Real class act.  Reeve was a great benefactor after his accident.  Don't mar his death by turning it into a campaign stunt.

Agreed, Kerry is a no-talent jerk-clown. Deperate people..... desperate measures...

Normally I would agree, but a very close friend is a prominent member of Reeve's foundation. I spoke with her about it, and she told me that he was infact a personal friend of Kerry, and she had no problem with it. She is also a staunch Republican, planning on voting for Bush...

1) wrong forum

2) Bush did this too. With Regan. Quit yer bitchin.

1) I can see that now.

2) No he didn't. To even compare the two is disrespectful to both. They paid tribute to Reagan not went out and said things like this:

" Christopher Reeve just passed away, and America just lost a great champion for this cause, somebody who was a powerful voice for the need to do stem cell research and change the lives of people like him, who have gone through a tragedy. Well, if we do the work that we can do in this country, the work that we will do when John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve are going to walk, get up out of that wheelchair and walk again. "

3) Embryo Stem cell research wouldn't have done anything for Christopher Reeve. It doesn't do anything for spinal cord injuries. The other research which might has been funded by Bush.

4) Nobody is banning stem cell research. Just not giving Embryonic stem cell research government funding.

5) Kerry does nothing but talk about stem cell research= good. Bush actually funds stem cell research (non embryo) = bad. First president to ever do so. Just another way to sling mud by the Kerry camp because they can't actually stand on any accomplishments.

A piece by Charles Krauthammer who has a spinal cord injury and knows the issue very well:

"In an election year, it is too much to expect serious and complicated moral issues to be treated with seriousness and complexity. Nonetheless, the way Democrats have managed to caricature and debase the debate over embryonic stem-cell research stands in a class by itself.

In his Aug. 7 radio address to the nation, John Kerry three times referred to "the ban" on stem-cell research instituted by President George W. Bush. What ban? Stem-cell research is legal in the U.S. and has been so since human embryonic stem cells were first isolated in 1998. There are dozens of groups studying them, including major stem-cell centers recently launched at Stanford and Harvard.

Perhaps Democrats mean a ban on federal funding for stem-cell research. But, in fact, there is no such ban. Through the Clinton years there was a ban. Not a single penny of federal money was allowed for any embryo research. In his first year in office, however, President Bush reviewed the issue and permitted the first federal funding of stem-cell research ever. "

This is an interesting read:

Don't Politicize Stem Cell Research

by Michael Tanner

http://www.cato.org/dailys/07-29-04-2.html

"By its very nature, government politicizes everything it touches. Science is no exception. Stem cell research needs neither government money nor politics. It is better is to get the government out and let the private sector continue its good work. Those people calling for increased funding could take out their checkbooks and support it. Those who oppose embryonic stem cell research would not be forced to pay for it. "

Here is another Edwards thought:

"Edwards also reiterated the Democratic ticket's support for "therapeutic" cloning, which involves the creation of cloned human embryos as a source of stem cells. He rejected the notion that embryo cloning was synonymous with human cloning, which he said he and Kerry oppose. "

Raise your hand if you are trying to confuse the American public into thinking the Bush administration is trying to ban Stem Cell research.

I dont know where you get your info from but i can tell you that stem cell research would help patients with spinal chord injuries, so how can i read the rest of your silly post. Bush hasnt banned stem cell research he has just limited funding. Stem cell research will happen, but under Bush's plan, of the restricted lines of stem cells used many of the stem cell lines may be useless, and even if they can be used to find cures they will not work except exclusively for the race the stem cell will match. Its really a useless plan to get the ball rolling and it will not make the progress we could be making. Thats the issue. Many more will die before stem cell research is made useful, so for those peoples lives alone I do think Kerry has a right to use the death of reeves as political leverage because a lot more could have been done sooner. unless you believe in the process of natural selection...

Many more will die before stem cell research is made useful

and many more will die as embryos in hopes of saving them

those who seek to gain a more comfortable existence for themselves at the expense of embryos are selfish dreamers. yes, even Christopher Reeves. it would have been great to see him walk again - but at the expense of human life? that's sick.
