NWC70
I was told that if I touch the + & - battery cables together for 5 minutes that this will reset the ecu. Has anyone done this before? Will it overide my recent Volvo dealer download for the EMS problem?Should the car be able to rev over 4,500 RPM in neutral? Car can hold 9psi but there is almost no acceleration and the car is very bogged down.I had been following this thread: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?showtopic=99816I'll be working on the car this afternoon and inspecting the VVT solenoid. maiku
if you touch the + and - battery terminals together you'll likely short out the battery, the car electronics, and possibly kill yourself
NWC70
if you touch the + and - battery terminals together you'll likely short out the battery, the car electronics, and possibly kill yourselfI'm sure that is true for the battery terminals but I said battery cables. If the battery is out of the car where will it get power from to shock me?

If the battery is out of the car where will it get power from to shock me?It wont, and that is exactly what to do, its function is dumping all the capacitors in the control modules, its referred to as a battery reset. 5 minutes is unnecessary, just a momentary touch or two will do the job. I don't trust the Tacoma volvo dealership anyways, they either have no idea whats going on or are mad because they broke my seatbelt and had to fix it.Did you ever check your vin to see if you had an HPT? I do work for the volvo dealership, and have for the past 20 plus years. The last 18 years as a technician, now i have moved up front to the service drive. The battery reset procedeure I mentioned is a valid, safe, and useful tip for modern car's electronic system hiccups. I have been suprised at the things this has fixed for us here. Never hurts to try this. Tim ChildersVolvo Of Hickory

Found out the problem was a bad MAF sensor, car runs so much better with it unplugged. Will be replacing.
