Seagrams
sounds like either you or the previous owner didn't know about letting the turbo idle down after running it hard to prevent oil coking that'll kill your journal bearings.... if you've been boosting, it's always a good idea to let the engine idle a bit before shutting off to make sure you cool that b*tch down and don't muck it up.... or the turbo was defective but i doubt that so the only thing i can think of to promptly kill a turbo is that. Big Will
I agree that something is smells like Arctic Char in the explanation of the problem. Maybe the PCV is/was very clogged. That usually manifests as oil leaking from the turbo but definitely do as Travis suggests and check for shaft play. If there isn't any or hardly any then I would get a 2nd opinion on this before throwing a whole lot of $$ into this by replacing a turbo that may/may not need to be replaced.Hope this works out in a more cost effective way for ya. Vs709987
Thanks for the replies. Well my dad didn’t really use good terminology with me earlier. I talked to him again when he got home and I guess the turbocharger is still functioning but supposedly super Fd up to the point where it needs to be replaced regardless. Something to the effect that it is a progessive problem that will just get worse if the charger is not replaced, and more things will possibly break down if it is not fixed. In this case, Ima snatch my car up tomorrow morning from the dealer and take it to another shop to have it looked at. Does anybody in the MD/DC area know much about the Scandinavian import service center? For new turbo and all new coolant and oil lines to it ? or is that just the labor For labor and parts.BrianCheck out HAV (Honda Acura Volvo) Auto. The place is littered with Volvos, which they specialize in. Guy's name is Art, drives a clean ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD red 850. He has done any work I've needed on my car and is a stand up guy. Really knows his stuff. He is in Catonsville and his number is 410-455.9100. Tell him Danny with the white T5 referred you.Danny, I will also try to give your guy a call tomorrow as well to see what he thinks and if possible take it out there.
