Which Repair Manual

Recommended Posts

I got a chiltons manual for my 850 turbo. It is very helpful, but i have a haynes manual for my volvo 240 turbo, and I like the layout of it better. From previous experience these manuals have different ease of use and content for different types of cars. does anyone have any opinions on which one is better for the 850? anyone have experience with both, or an alternative like alldata.com.

thanks party ppl

hmmm, like what are they? the strengths and weaknesses. which has more of each. which do you find more user friendly? off the top of your head since youve used both. I will end up buying both if someone will tell me that the haynes manual is better for the 850, but not if it also has its downside. I have an alldata.com account that has filled in the blanks so far so I dont need both and id like to have one good, reliable resource.

Why not both?  I've got one of each.  Both have their strengths and weaknesses

I agree. I also have both but mostly use Haynes because it is more organized. Although, Chilton has some things that are not covered by Haynes. When I work on something important I cross-reference both manuals

darn <_< ok Ill get the haynes manual too. I shouldve gotten it in the first place. I sometimes dont even use a manual, but when I do I want it to be organized well, so, looks like ill be about 15bucks lighter by the end of the day. thanks for your input guys

Don't worry, it'll be worth it. I can't remember right now exactly what each one was better at, but you'll thank yourself when you're in the middle of a project and the book you're using doesn't have a good description. When you go grab the other one, chances are it will cover it better.

Just different writers thought different things should have more pictures/descriptions
