V70r Maf In S70 T5..

Hi

A few weeks ago I got a couple of codes due to a bad MAF. I have a 98 S70 T5 but got a 98 V70R MAF from 94850TX. I used to get around 20.5 mpg city but it's now creeping down slowly and is at about 18.5 mpg at the moment according to the trip computer. Would this MAF cause lower mpg?

Btw, I've been "code free" for over two weeks now. A record since I bought the car over two years ago :D .

Thanx,

TS

i belive the MAFs are the same exact part.

and i have herd of mafs that don't throw codes but decrease gas millage

i had a buddy with a 855 turbo that was getting 14mpg but changed the maf and was then getting 25+

Thanks, that is good info..I'll have to keep an eye on it then. If it gets too bad I'll have to get a new one.

Is there a way to check the condition of a MAF if buying used?

To check a maf, hook up an OBDII scanner, and read the values. You'll tell pretty quickly if it's bad.

Also, when your maf is bad, and you're running with a check engine light, the car is running on fueling tables, safe ones. With a working maf, it'll be running back on the afr's it's detecting. If you're playing with the extra power, obviously the mpg's gonna drop.

Try spraying a good cleaner on the MAF, see if there is any oil stuck on it from a K&N filter. Just don't touch the sensor portion with your fingers or even a cloth.

Sounds like you may need a new MAF.

What are values would indicate a bad MAF? My 855T doesn't have an CEL but the MPG has also gone down. O2 sensor is 8 years old but no CEL either.

My scanner reads every half second or so. If you're in neutral, and take it to 2500rpm, and hold it there (brick or very constant foot) then the air flow in g/s should remain constant. (can't remember the figure, think it was in the 200g/s range) If it's erratic, and dancing all over the place, your maf has issues.

Mine was so bad at one stage it could barely idle, and i'd struggle to start the car when warm. After several trips to the dealership, new plugs, new filters, new vac lines, new fuel pump etc, they eventually found the maf readings were not constant. New Maf and all was 100%. During this whole time I had no codes.

This prompted me to buy my scanner. Self diagnosis FTW.
