riley37
Hey everyone, noobie to the forum and new to Volvos. I recently bought an S60 2.5T (which I love btw), 2004 MY Auto. For about the first 3 weeks I was getting about 24-25 MPGs, with moderate to aggressive driving. Now, I am getting surging on medium to hard acceleration and my MPG's have dropped to 20-21 MPG's. I am driving no different, in fact when I noticed the fuel economy dropping, I started driving more conservatively and using the auto-stick more to up shift at lower RPMs, with little to no impact. I have searched this forum pretty thoroughly and have been able to put some possible pieces together but nothing concrete. From what I am seeing, could be bad plugs (has 48K miles, don't know for sure if plugs were replaced before I bought), I changed the oil a couple weeks ago; fuel synthetic. Also maybe needs new air filter (again don't know if it was changed) Have their been issues with the ETM on the 04s like on the 99-02? What other suggestions do you all have to remedy this situation? I would like to try all possible options before taking to Volvo mechanic. Thanks for your help Mike

TurboS60
Sounds like you need a tune up to me. Replace the plugs, filters, and also check ur tire pressure n make sure theyre properly inflated.

ifnt420
If your car is surging while accelerating it could be a bad TCV. Inexpensive part but makes a world of difference in performance. Regarding fuel consumption, a good tune up should do the trick. Keep us posted and good luck!see photo below:http://www.volvoxc.com/volvo_photo_gallery...&fullsize=
MrWinkey
Check for tune..... and have your changed you fuel quality at all? Try 93 octane from the same station for 2 or 3 tank fulls and see what the stats are. Many variables involved in equating fuel mileage. Welcome Riley ;)
