T5power
could be your ABS module... speed sensor is tied in there from what i recall. are your ABS and TRACS lights on?

Subayai
It can also be caused by lose of the speed signals coming in from each of the wheel sensors. If I recall correctly the speedometer does not require all sensors to work. In your case perhaps too many have stopped working. The speed sensors are at each wheel, and can easily be removed with a 10mm socket. Clean all the debris off of them (sometimes a lot of metalic debris can get stuck to them), check the wires, and re-install.
DonutsDemise
i agree, wipe off all of the abs sensors first, it's quick, easy and free. then go from there.
DelawareT5M
I dont think it could be the wheel sensors because when i restart my car, it works again. any chance its a fuse?could be your ABS module... speed sensor is tied in there from what i recall. are your ABS and TRACS lights on?yes, both ABS and TRACS light have been on since i owned the car. Subayai
Well then, time to send out the control module to Victor at http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/The speedometer gets it signal from the ABS control module. If the ABS and TRACS light have been always been on, then the problem has just progressed to the speed signal circuits as well. I just took my car there this past weekend, and Victor is a great guy, and believes in only doing quality work.
copycat923
I think this can happen with ignition switch, but I'm not for sure, try jiggling the key next time it happens.
