Guest Vicky
Hi All,My car 2000 S40 had multiple symptoms, which I can't understand. It keeps accelerating with out giving gas and temparature gauge is staying on red at that time. At stop signal if I put on neutral, it is making loud noise like if I press gas pedal all the way down.If I stop the engine at this stage, car is not starting again. After some time say 30 minutes I can start the engine. So I pulled to a nearby Indy mechanic and he doesn't have a clue on what was the problem, He is checking on Fuel pressure regulator but that didn't help. One note is that I didn't start the car from last two months as I am away from home.I appreciate any inputs on this. Thanks,Vicky
Jippi 855 GLT
has the car had an ETM recall done to it?? iirc 00 s40s are fly by wire, most likey an etm issue.

Last year when it had starting problem, FPR and IAC were replaced by dealer and advised to change MAF also, which I decnilned since problem solved. Guest Vicky
Yesterday I took it to a Volvo mechanic and it turns out to be a bad Coolant temparature sensor. Thx - Vicky

I don't see how the coolant temp sensor could cause the engine to rev uncontrollably.

Ihatespeedbumps
Hmm. I don't see how the coolant temp sensor could cause the engine to rev uncontrollably.A bad ECT could cause the car to run very lean or rich causing the o2 sensors to try and overcompensate thus making the engine run poorly and could cause uneven idle problems. And there is no ETM on 00 s40's. It is a cable throttle.
