Bleh! Stupid Wiring >_<

Ahh see but my system has 9 speakers, that's why I can't just bypass the amp and I need a whole new amp setup.

Doesnt matter how many speakers you have as long as you match the ohm rating. How many channel is your HU? It should be at the very least 5 if not 7.

Output (center speaker) - 1x25 W

Output (supplementary amplifier): 4x100 W, 10% dist

Output impedance: 4 Ohms

^ That's the info out of my owners manual ^

So judging by that, it's 5 channels. 2 left (4 speakers), 2 right (4 speakers), and the front center.

you can have 52 speakers it doesn't matter. I have the premium sound system with the SC-901 that has the dolby digitial and all that jazz. you bypass the stock amp and run new speakers. heres the thing about stock speakers...they suck. not in conjunction with a stock unit, but paired with aftermarket equipment they dont' stack up. you'll need an aftermarket amp anyways so might as well replace your speakers with proper units, components preferably, but some 2-way coaxial will do the trick. the other problem is the aftermarket HU doesn't support a surround sound center speaker, unless you buy something that offers a dolby digital surround. otherwise you're pre-outs are limited left and right, front and back and subs. you'll never notice the center speaker is missing if you upgrade all your speakers and pair them with proper amps. everything can be had for $500~ on a budget but still decent system. look into wholesale audio places, better deals then rip offs like circuit city, best buy and car toys.

a double din screen would easily fit into your car, a ton of people who have the bank to afford such equipment run them without issue.

The thing is that my budget is $1,200 max, preferably closer to a grand, and the deck I want is 500. I guess I'm headed back out to the mall later to go to circuit city and inspect my options, they seemed like the most knowledgeable as far as all of the stuff went, and the most reasonable as far as pricing and willingness to work on the car.

500 for the HU and another 500 in speakers, you will be set. i spent 350 on 2 pairs of infinity kappa coax, and 1 set kappa component. i also got a basslink for 100.

Right now I'm looking at re-wiring it and using all the current speakers, and getting Alpine's 5-channel amp so I can keep that front center radio going, and grab a single-din deck as such - http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/p...model=iDA-X100M - and putting an empty slot below it. I'd really like to get a double-din touch screen setup... but those cost a lot more :(

go on my moms butt and search kenwood ddx, you can find them new for $550, you paid that much for your head unit.

You're just going to blow the factor speakers. 50 watts is LOUD.

Other than the 10" whoofers in the doors, I can get all new JBL speakers for $300 before tax, and I'd have to search for the whoofers because the slots for 'em are only 4" deep, which makes it hard to work with.

I'll beat this horse one more time...

If you could hear the stock system with some bass under it,

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a problem with it.

Volvo and Alpine loaded the 2000 C70 with a nice package.

If it hasn't been hosed by a drunken idiot previous owner,

it should still sound great and just needs a little bump in the trunk.

Remember, this is your car, your money and you will be the one living with it.

You don't need aftermarket just because everyone else has it...

It's called "Marketing". Just jump in and teach yourself this stuff!

Plug in the DIN/DIN short cord with the RCA drop, run a power cable

from the battery, a signal cable with a turn on lead from the deck,

mount the amp and sub enclosure and you are rockin'!

These are some really rough guestimates:

M-DIN/F-DIN with an RCA drop = $20-40

Sub amp = $200-400

Simple sub = $200-400

Misc wire, cable, fuseholder, etc = $60-100

Knowing you have good sound and did it all yourself?

B) Priceless...
