turbomoose
I think I have a problem brewing. I just came home from my parents house, and parked out in the visitor parking area because I still have to go out and run some errands. So I go into my garage to grab my umbrella ella ella, cause it's going to start pouring, and notice there's a quarter sized drop of motor oil on the garage floor. So of course I go and check under my car. Well on the front air guide thing there's a little slot right under the intercooler hose, next to the radiator drain plug, and it's oily. I checked my oil level and it was half a quart low, and it's been about 3K since my last change. It's either that damn weep hole on the intercooler or I have trouble knocking. Does anyone else here ever notice oil dripping from the intercooler weep hole?? This is the first time it's ever done this. I also noticed that my intercooler pipe hoses are sweating oil. WTF?!Pics as soon as I come back from Costco. Here's where it leaked from the air ductThe messThe weep holeThe sweaty hose. All of my hoses are covered in a very light oil film.Time for new hoses??! NoodleKnight
For our older cars it's actually normal for the hoses to sweat a bit of oil and for oil to drip out of that weep hole. If it's worrying you; check for oil blow by -- if it's excessive it could be your turbo seals or PCV related fault.
Che'_Moderator
Looks normal.
turbomoose
Thanks for the advice guys! After looking through some service bulletins I found this little bit-o-info. ...And I've got a completely new PCV system. Hoses, gaskets and all. So I know it's not that.I took off the hose that goes to the throttle and there's no oil or film on the throttle body. Not what I was expecting. Keaton85
Looks pretty normal to me, unless you have never had the PCV redone. You will probably never have zero oil unless you have the PCV system changed to not go into the intake.
Mesoam
Rich used to just tell people to tape some pads into the spash guard every few oil changes, worked fine I plugged my weep hole but I also run a catch can
adamjjohn203
I've had too much oil added upon change and dropped oil every time I stopped for a week until all the extra was pushed out.
shurgen
So, is it ok to just plug that weep hole? When I searched for boost leaks, I found that hole to be blowing out a lot of air and I plugged it.
Keaton85
I would leave it alone, you want the oil to drain out. If you have a catch can like Mesoam then that is a different story.
turbomoose
There was only a very small amount in the air duct, and I never remove that duct so maybe that's how it's supposed to drip. There's no oil puddles inside the turbocharger just a very thin film. And it's all very clean inside the turbo.Looking into the intake is all very clean too, and there was no puddled oil in any of the hoses that lay horizontal. The weather for the past 3 months has been extremely humid and rainy. Lots of fog. It pours durring the day and on my way home, then gets cool at night. Maybe this is an oil / condensation mix inside the intercooler being pushed out with the boost pressure?Oh and it's been about 15K since I replaced my PCV system and RMS.
